Hello JLR,
Nice piece of poetry having impressive phraseology, captivating flow throughout from the beginning to the end, and beautifully depicting its theme - Only time will tell...
Lovely Presentation!

This reminds me of the well-known adage asked by children: Why's the sky blue?

You've explored questions I think most of us have at one time or another in a well-constructed poem. Thank you for the definitions at the bottom of the page. Fatiloquent was a new one for me. Regards, Lilly

Perhaps because we are almost the same age or perhaps because we are both poets - I track your words and find myself looking for more. Thank you for this.

    A. Louise, I believe as we age, wisdom becomes a guiding force. So we seek more deeply the meaning of all things of importance - that one thing that brings fullness of understanding that our otherwise busy minds never focus on.

You introduced me to a new word with this one, JLR.

The grim things that lie in my past,
Oh, I remember well.
But what lies in my future life,
Oh, only time will tell.

Sometimes leaving things alone and waiting to see what happens is the best course of action as with the fullness of time we obtain an answer, often I am not this patient. Although I have never questioned my own existence, we all have a purpose in life and we we find it we are fulfilled and contented, love Dolly x

This is strong poem with a powerful message.
Brilliantly composed and presented. The repeated phrases, "is this a pattern," are effective rhythmically.
The topic is relatable and provocative. Thanks for sharing your talent.

K.L. yes the ageless question of every generation is always come to a reflection of ones life, hoping to have done something purposeful while here.

Well, I learned a new word! I didn't think there were many English words that would be totally new to me. But there you go! A very thought provoking and disturbing free verse. Good job, I enjoyed it!

The thing I love about writing is the broad spectrum of expression it offers some people use speech to express themselves, I'm much prefer write, besides, I can edit it, with speech I cannot. This is a great free verse write, in which you express yourself so well Jim, well done, blessings Roy
Typo I can (decern) discern?

Hi Roy I was purposeful with the use of both decern and discern in this free verse.
    Decern: Decide; determine; decree.
    Discern: perceive or recognize (something).

A thoughtful, philosophical post. And yes, there is a pattern if we do look back over time. God was there even in the "winds of life's turbulent times." You always see the Creator's Hand in the perfect patterns of nature. I like the refrain of seeking the pattern and the decreasing font of the waiting for time to show that progression of time and acceptance.

This is a very intelligent, well crafted free verse. I personally find this poetry form the most challenging because of the lack of rules, but you handle it masterfully. I like the way the lines fade out at the end, just as time does.
