She sounds like an incredible lady, and one who is an inspiration to all people, regardless of race. As you say, that doesn't come into it, and I agree, it shouldn't. Unfortunately, it does with many. This was a lovely tribute to this amazing teacher. Well done and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx

Even before I'm through reading you story, I just love and connect so closely with Mrs Dixon. Making everyone of her classes a family, was a priceless bond given her students creating the atmosphere of love, safety & confidence to learn. Life lessons are way more important than school lessons.
How special for you to be Santa!
Sometimes, words won't do the job but yours have come close. A wonderful tribute to a wonderful loving lady who has made a lasting impact on your life and countless others. Special thanks to all the 'Mrs Dixons' - even though there aren't many in that rank.

An awesome story entry
for the A Memorable Teacher writing prompt contest. Great imagery. It flows well with beautifully descriptive words that paint a clear mental picture.

Mrs. Dixon.... sounds like a great teacher.

I still remember my teacher and im a teacher too. It's one of the best jobs in the world.

The essay form is well executed.

Good luck in the contest!

I loved, loved this essay. I could see her being anyone's favorite teacher. She expanded the world of her kids beyond teaching her subject area. I am a black, retired eight grade English teacher. This essay reminded me of me and how I related to my kids.
This line was stellar about Mrs. Dixon~ If you want to talk about a barrier-breaking, glass ceiling breaker, door opener--she was it.
Good luck in the contest.

Your contest entry read well, but regardless of contest
or not, you paid tribute to an exceptional teacher. I
enjoyed reading and learning about your teacher. I
could see and hear the pride and love you have for Armendia
Dixon, PHD. What an accomplishment she made of her
life to share with others as a teacher.
Best wishes, Jan

She reminds me of my wife, although Elaine is white, she was a senior Mistress in languages heading a language faculty. She thought at a few underprivileged schools, but believed in equity, and taught people that succeeded in real life, she still mentors young refugee migrant ladies, and befriends them and still keeps regular meetings with them to back them, she's a good friend, and has had a huge influence on our girls and grandchildren. They are the backbone of a nation, they set the standard, well done, blessings Roy
Typo : Because (in) seventh grade (me) (I) played Santa Claus.

I have enjoyed reading all the stories of extraordinary teachers on this site, what a terrific prompt. We can all relate to that one teacher that was the greatest impact over all of the others. My was my second grade teacher, Mrs. Jackson. This is well written and thoughtful. Thanks for sharing.

It is amazing how a great teacher can inspire learning and motivate one to go into the field of education. Your words clearly show how much this lady inspired you and you know a teacher is great when you look forward to class. Excellent story here that makes the reader feel good.

What a wonderful story! You've painted a picture of a truly great lady. I feel like I know her after reading your piece. You could have ready this at her retirement and delighted everyone!

This is a really enjoyable account of your experiences with Dr. Armendia Dixon, and a great tribute to a teacher who had a positive effect on the lives of many students. I liked best, that you were able to give us a bit of her background and provide an actual picture. There was one sentence I did not understand.

"I remember another kid showed us how to do a European mount of deer antlers in his first buck." What is meant by 'in his first buck?'

Your story flowed smoothly and held the reader's interest. Best wishes in the contest.
