Though trying to smile at this very sad time is probably not the correct response, I love the poem by your father. By itself, it would deserve a five, but as it is actually a poem by someone else, I'm giving you a four for sharing it so simply and beautifully. And it did make me smile!

Hahaha! The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, Terry. Your father had quite a knack for writing light poetry with a little chuckle-tugger at the end. And it is true, our heavy hearts can use a little humor after the events in Texas. By the way, what are you doing there, anyway?

Very uplifting.
Puts me to mind of my son, 8-10 years old, asking a very pretty family friend (16-17 at the time) if she'd marry him. She laughed (politely) and told him that if she wasn't married when he turned 18, then she would marry him. Made his day.
Best wishes.

Now I know where your talent comes from.

I'm giving you six stars even though your father wrote it because you honored him by posting it and giving us something to smile about when so many of us are sad and disgusted.

It's a beautiful poem and I'm sure you're very proud of him.

It seems as if our world is broken, and taking a moment to remember a more innocent time is important. It is important not just for the brief smile, but also to remind us the world is what we make it. It is up to us to take every possible opportunity to share some 'good' thing, some smile, some 'I care' and that, Terry, is what you did with this poem from you dad. .That earns a 6 star thank you! I appreciate. ann

Awe, this is awesome my friend! I love it, and it did make me smile; BigTime!
Your dad's writing style reminds me a little bit of my own, with a little surprise at the end! Yes, it's so hard when your state goes through such a horrible ordeal, but this one is felt everywhere and my heart hurts whenever children are involved.
My thoughts are with you all. Your post is wonderful and I so enjoyed reading this from your dad.

Thank you for sharing this poem that your father wrote, and giving us something to smile about today. I like the surprise ending to his poem, a student who fell in love with his teacher.

What a fun poem, Terry. I'm so happy you shared your dad's
writing. For a boy of eight, he had a great command of language
and what he wanted to say. The image is supportive. I thrilled
you have this memory of your dad. Yes, we all need a smile
break after the school shooting.
Thank you for sharing, Jan
