Your poem on loneliness was very moving. There truly is a lot of it in our country, both pets and people. The kitty I adopted had been in a shelter for four months and was starved for love. She had become a wonderful companion. I hope others read your poem and think before taking on the responsibility of pet care.

Thank you. I do hope so. I was told it was a bit preachy at the end but sometimes people need to be challenged for their neglect which is really emotional abuse. I value your words. You know how to love a pet.

This is a touching and true piece that hits on so many heart-wrenching happenings. I'm not sure where the contest is, but I wish you much success. This is a beautiful entry.

Thank you very much. I appreciate your encouraging review and good wishes. (The Committee is checking all the entries at present, so voting should start to happen in the next few hours I think).

I commend you for being a champion for lonely dogs everywhere. At first I thought you were referring to just those in shelters seeking an owner. But indeed many "pets" spend too many hours alone and deserve more care.

Thank you Rod for taking the time to review this one. Are there any suggestions for improvement that I could implement to raise it to a five star rating?

Work on your last stanza so it doesn?t sound like you are preaching to the reader.

This is a beautifully written piece, heart-breaking and true, especially in light of being about animals (they always manage to tug my heart strings!).

This contest has inspired some very affecting poems.

Thank you very much. Animals are so vulnerable, so dependent on humans and all they want is appropriate love and care, and some of our time. I appreciate your kind words very much.

Many years ago, we were given a dog that the family no longer could keep.
We brought him home and kept his name. Duffy. He was an older dog. And depressed for three months. He did not bark. The dog missed the family we had gotten him from. After those three months, he finally got used to us. He was the best dog. He was a Golden Retriever. Thank you for sharing.

Poor Duffy. They do become very attached, but it was lovely that you had the patience with him necessary to build new love and trust with you. I?m sure he went on to have a wonderful life with you knowing he was loved.

Yes, the poor dog missed those people.
I had never seen a depressed dog. It was so sad.
