This is an excellent example of silence speaking volumes. I don't suppose the contributions are from unrequited lovers either. @Well, I hope all their wishes come true. some will but for the others we need to wish and more.

You are so good at showing a scene and creating a feeling. Yes, seeing those many coins in the "wishing fountain by the cancer center" shows us all those wishes for health.

Oh yes... Hedge all bets, double down on faith and hope, toss the lucky penny...

Then sleep the surgical sleep and awaken to see what bits of you are carved away...

Somehow, gather wits about you to lose do much and say a prayer of thanks!

As you can see, this one hit home...

Yes, me too. One night and day I was homeless and had to sleet on a church hall floor. It hardly qualifies for me to say I know what is like but the experience gave me a new perspective about homelessness. It's not nights that are hard, during the day you have to look for a play to sit or stand or whatever. Business owners don't want h.p. next to their front door. Neither home owners, etc. Also finding a place to use the bathroom or take a shower.

We need to find solutions. In some cities, there are camps with public bathrooms and showers. Other cities have tiny houses with inside bathrooms and showers And beds. Also laundry and a community hall with TV, computers, arts and crafts, tables and place for celebrations, social services....etc... we need more like that. Also a way to get a job, save money and move into their own apartments...such places have a waiting list but the lucky ones can transition from homelessness to a normal life. There are some YouTube videos that I watch ... if you search you'll find a bunch. My favorite is, invisible people,

Watch "San Jose Opens Tiny-House Community to Shelter the Homeless" on YouTube
