What a great story, Wendy. Thank you for sharing this with us. We never went to a drive-in movie but I can remember road trips to visit family or other things where all five of us children and our parents were packed in the car. No seat belts us older ones usually ended up holding the smaller ones on our laps. Lots of squabbling and complaints. But some great memories as well.

Thank you Anne. It?s fun to look back on such times even if it wasn?t great at the time. Especially for Dad! Lol.

Hello Wendy
You wrote your story with great scenes of confused events that was taking place in your station wagon.
I found comical (but not to Dad.)
Many years ago my husband and I took our three lively children to the drive in movies; no way I can compare the nerve wracking activity you had to experience.

Thank you very much Gert. Yes my poor frazzled father didn?t enjoy it too much!

That brings back memories. We used to go to the drive-in on occasion. I seem to remember some of the problems that you had. I don't think there's a drive-in theater left in Maine.

Thank you very much Paul for reviewing. No I don?t think we have many or any left. What will future writers talk about for family outings?!

That's a shame that it was your last drive-in movie. My family and I went to the drive-in a lot. I always enjoyed it. Being an only child, I had no problem getting the best seat, and usually sat out on the front fender. Then, I would act like I'd fallen asleep on the way home, so Daddy would have to carry me in. I'd hear him say, "She's playing possum." Your story reminded me of those times. Thank you, Wendy.

LOL Thank you for sharing this writing prompt entry with us. We, too, only went to the drive-in once, and there was only my brother and myself. LOl I did go as a teenager. This brought back memories.

Being marooned here in UK I have never been to a drive in movie - our climate is not suitable but I remember 'I Am Cat' once writing that she was less than totally committed as the gnats and mosquitoes tended to be a problem. I think I shall stick with the good old UK flea pit thanks.

We use mosquito repellent and that helps!! I think too it?s easier to catch mosquitoes than fleas. It sure what the purpose of either is though, unless it?s to quicken our reflexes as we smack at them. Lol. Thanks for reviewing. You are probably glad not to have had an experience like my father had!

Good memories. We too had a wagon but Dad parked backwards for the six kids to arrange themselves in the cargo area and three on the roof. The parents had the front seat alone and cuddled while we enjoyed the three picture shows.

Now why didn?t my parents think of that?! (Mind you they wouldn?t have cuddled. Their marriage ended badly.) It?s a great review. Thank you so much.

Very nice story. Well told.
Some outings and adventures sound so exciting and fun in the anticipation and planning, often not so much in the execution.
(I haven't seen theaters offer cartoons or double features in decades.)
Best wishes.

Thanks Wayne. Super review. You are right - the anticipation beats the reality sometimes.

Your story is a hoot - all those individuals causing chaos crammed into a car. Sounds like Geoff enjoyed being a bossy boots. This is a fun read... as stories about disasters that turn out ok often can be. No-one died - where was the quicksand and the bear?

(Our family used to go to the Canberra drive-in quite often, but there were only my older brother and me for our parents to wrangle.)

Thanks for reviewing. Glad you enjoyed it, and yes, we all survived! No wonder we didn?t have many outings though!! My brother was always embarrassed about and ashamed of his four little sisters!
(Btw, guess who now has covid? I?m not too bad fortunately.)

Good luck with the covid bugs - I hope you don't suffer.
