What a dramatic and confronting photo! Love the description of the clouds as hard-muscled -that is different and original. Your 5-7-5 meets all requirements and flows well. Best wishes.

You chose a striking image and matched it with a complimentary background. The poem concerns nature and has the required number of lines. I think this is a fine entry.

The first two lines of this poem flow and connect well. The last line
says it all! I liked the description in the first two line of the storm. They
were intense. The artwork is awesome and compliments this poem.

Comment from Verna Cole Mitchell
I like the creativity you used in this poem, giving muscles to clouds and making "posse" a verb. The picture adds to ominous nature of the poem. Good luck in the contest.

I don't write good haiku, but I know good ones when I see them. Your lively use of personification and metaphor paint a vivid scene in nature. great artwork

That storm is very frighting. I would not want to be anywhere near those clouds. You have chosen a great picture for your poem. Thank you for sharing. This would be a great awareness picture for storms.

I agree. Such storms can be be immensely scary. Long ago when there were great herds of buffalo on these plains, lightning strikes often caused stampedes where anyone in their path was trampled. Many thanks, Carolyn, for sharing my poem.

Our skies seem threatening at times and we always know what's coming when we see those black clouds overhead, it is time to take cover here, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

This nature 5-7-5, Big Storm a Brewin', has the right setup and brings a great description to go along with the terrific picture. To "posse o'er the western plain" works well.

Nice 5-7-5. I like the imagery of "muscled clouds" as we generally think of clouds as fluffy...not so much on the prairie from time to time though. Nice syllable work too using the western slang to your advantage. Artwork captured poem nicely.
Good luck to you in the contest!

I adore hard-muscled as a description for clouds, because it's apt visually and also elementally. Great idea to personify them as a posse, getting ready to ride out. Your closing line as as much confirmation as anything - I very much enjoyed.
