This is a wonderful story about your Dad, and his compassion towards his mother. Imagine a fifteen-year-old going to war to help his family and his country and then feeling like he had let his friend down by not visiting his family. Respect. That is the overarching theme I hear in your story. It seems some think that in order to be a hero a person has to die. I think the people like your dad are just as heroic - the boys that came home in honor and had to go back to living a regular life. I really enjoyed this story. Thanks for sharing!
