Tom, thank you, those are all great memories for you, maybe you should turn it into a story. Terry.

Wow, Terry. You got great mileage out of this story! (Okay, I couldn't help that....)

Cars are inevitably linked to our memory banks. I can recite every care I ever owned--and most that anyone I ever dated owned for that matter.

GTO's----Geez. The Fonzie of cars! Enough said.

I laughed out loud at your little debates with yourself:

"Did it have sex appeal? No. It didn't matter. A girl never rode in it. I don't think it was the car. It could have been the driver, or maybe it was the car. I was not the best student of stuff like that in those days."

Too funny about the merits of that Toyota Corona! Ah, to be young and er, flexible!

I had a Pinto hatchback. (Sorry to say) -- Being about the dimmest bulb on the tree I tried to drive this (standard/not automatic) piece of "machinery" to the top of Mount Washington. All did not end well. I had to be towed down. Pricey mistake!

My dad had a maroon Cordova -- (Yes, Ricardo Montalban, it had "fine Corinthian leather!)

My first boyfriend's dad had an MGB. This is very important. It was a cherry red convertible, and it was the main reason "Harry" was my first boyfriend (okay I was eleven, so there's that....)

You ended with a sad note -- that accident must be ingrained in your brain forever...

All in all, cars are great, but I think you'd agree the best make and model in your life was your beloved Zoe!

Another great write...and I wish, oh wish I had a separate stash of sixes just for YOU!

This is a good story, sort of up and down as life is. Funny how things that can bring us the most pleasure typically also play vital parts in our saddest memories. Your story catches life in that poignant manner.

As always, your post includes a bit of humor, a bit of sadness, a bit of hope, a bit of reality and, in short, portrays life as you lived it.

I love the story. It is real and that that 'realness' comes through loud and clear. ann

An interesting story of your various cars and experiences, but the last one was a dreadful experience, although it made a fitting and dramatic climax to your piece. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks again for bringing back memories. I don't recall a car with holes in the sides of the hood. My boyfriend had a Volvo with bucket seats which I hated since it didn't allow for makeout sessions! Funny story about your trying to repair the MGB. I remember well how costly labor was at repair shops.

This is a captivating history of your experiences with cars. You made me think of my dad back in the late 50's and 60's with his Oldsmobiles. He would trade one in and get another one. I enjoyed your story and tried to remember what each car looked like. Thank God you had a praying mother. Prayer is what saved you and your brother. I'm sorry your mother suffered, but am glad she was alive. Great story. Best wishes in the contest.

I enjoyed reading your story about the nice cars you and your family owned. Then when you got to the part of the accident, I felt sadness. It is a miracle you and your family survived that head-on wreck. And those cars back in those days were made well. Not like today's disposable cars. Thank you for sharing. Those GTO's are classics. And I loved them. I never had the pleasure of buying one.

You did a great job sharing your car history, Terry. Many of
the cars were new to me. The holes in the hood sounded very
odd. You have a great recollection of cars. I do know what
Chilton auto books are. My brother was a self-taught mechanic
and owned several of them. Highway 80 is a major divided
highway now with a center median. It is very busy. What a sad
crash.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Jan, thank you for the review, those holes were odd, they were some type of air vents. Terry.

A "ride" down memory lane - good one:-)

And not that I was into cars, but the GTO was a definite chick magnet - that much I know.

This is a wonderful story of your youth and how cars helped to shape it and how they still bring back memories, good and sad.

My first boyfriend had Shelby Mustangs and the man I married has owned old Porsches all his life. Like I said, I've never been into cars, yet somehow the men I've been attracted to have.

Thanks for my own walk down memory lane.

Pam, thank you very much. My original draft of the story called it a "walk" down memory lane, but I thought that needed editing, so "drive" made it. Terry.

This is a good true story. There are parts that are just funny. There is also a tragic part about the head on collision with your mom and brother. The font is large and easy to read and the visual fits well. The one thing I would suggest is to tell this story in chronological order. You start doing that in the beginning. It is linear up until your marriage. Then you go back to your childhood. The last part should be with the childhood part you mentioned in the beginning. That way it makes more sense to the readers.

Sandra, Thank you for the review! The storyteller in me wanted the story to end on an emotional twist, which is why I did it the way I did. Your observations are good, and a better writer would most likely do it the way you suggest. I do consider myself a storyteller first and writer second, so that is what we get. Thanks, Terry.
