What a beautiful tribute to what was obviously a remarkable dad who left an indelible impression on a loving and appreciative son. Unlike you, I grew up with no interaction with my dad from the age of 5 years old into adulthood. My father's mother and my mother were not fond of each other and coupled with my father's roving eye and his frequent travels as a tender of rodeo horses did not bode well for my parent's marriage.

Wow, your father was a miracle from birth! Thank you for sharing about him! I think his childhood was hard, too, if I recall your other stories correctly. To be born a preemie and survive in those days was unheard of. And then it sounds he did lots for other people, not to mention bring you into the world. Thank you for sharing about your productive, resourceful, poetic, Renaissance man father!!
I'm sure there was some humor here but sorry, not knowing anything about whiskey, you'd have to explain what this means:
"My father used whiskey able five fat, dumb, and lazy. When he was drinking Jim Beam, it was whiskey able five fast,"

Thank you! whiskey (W) able (A) five (5) fast or fat (F) dumb or dangerous (D) lazy or lover (L)...WA5FDL his call letters. Jim Beam is a bourbon, when drinking that he would use the more humorous words. Terry.

You have a lot of pride in your father. I can feel it in your words. While my life did not parallel your father's, there are a few interesting touch-points. I also spent the better part of my life (50 years) selling insurance. Your father was successful at it. I was lazy and wasn't. During my military years, I was a radio operator, using morse code, so I know what a challenge it was for him to learn it at 40. From the looks of your dad in that photo, I see that both he and I were striking to look at. The difference is that by that age, my face had taken a lot more strikes, LOL.
No, very definitely you have a lot to be proud of, and I think if he knew what you were doing on Fanstory, he would be mighty proud of you.

A very nice homage.
