It is wonderful to linger on these special memories...

Like you, my family was rather poor ... I simply had no idea!

We were rich in family love.

I wouldn't trade my "Daddy's girl" memories for anything.

You honor your father beautifully in this poem!

And you my friend are so very sweet. I love that we share that connection of being daddy's girls, and not that you were poor, but it truly made us appreciate the simplicity of those years. Thank you so much for your lovely review and kind words my beautiful friend!

Thank you so very much Dolly! I so appreciate your kind review and lovely comments. This has been fun to hear all the people who have been able to relate as so many have told of their own stories, many of who were also daddy's girls. Thank you again my friend!

This is a beautiful poem in remembrance of your dad.
I have so enjoyed reading all of the Father's Day poems most, like yours are extremely touching.
I lost my dad many years ago, but on this day I always think of him.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much KL for your lovely review of my poem for my dad. You are always so sweet and I appreciate your kind words. Writing this and all the wonderful reviews have helped to feel a little closer to him this year for Father's Day. As you miss your dad as well, I hope all the poems have helped you to know that so many understand and feel the same way.
    Thanks again my dear friend!

Lol, you only heard six verses of my memories. They weren't all wonderful, but I cherish the ones that were special. Yes I was daddy's girl, but he had guilt and felt he had much to make up for, since he was an alcoholic and came home from the bar one night, threw my pregnant mother down the steps and as a result, I only weighed two 2 lbs at birth. He quit drinking and went on to help many alcoholics in his life. However because of drugs they gave my mother to save me, I've been plagued by severe health issues since. So being daddy's girl had a little bit of a curse to it, but I never held it against him, because he did the best he could for me, my mother and the rest of us seven kids. I followed the prompt and kept it positive but life just doesn't work out like that very often. I pray you too have some special ones my kind friend. And I thank you for your very kind and honest review. You are awesome!

I was a 'daddy's girl' too, so your poem resonated with me, (''I always felt so safe, because he called me daddy's girl'') although details vary of course - except for the swimming; my dad also did that, with me getting on his shoulders to be hurled into the air when he jumped.

LisaMay I think my favorite parts of these reviews are the ones that can relate in some way, even if it's small. I hear of so many that were also daddy's girls, Of course all wasn't perfect, but I choose to remember the good times. Like you, I love and miss him, but am thankful for the poor days of old, as we were blessed in many other ways. Lol, of course I didn't feel so blessed when I learned a few new words when he slipped and the pail went tumbling down the steps. : ) Thank you for your lovely review as l love that we both have the swimming memories.

A very lovely, touching tribute to your dad. It is well worded and reads well as you recount the memories of your dad. Best of luck in the contest. EVi

So many dad's that I've known have left it to the mother to be all of these things. I think a dad like yours who did so much for his little girl is a special dad, and you've written a special tribute to him.

Fond memories to you on this father's day.

I was a Daddy's girl too and can relate to your words. There is a feel of love in your poem as the reader sees all the things your father did for you. You have created a poem that touches the heart.

You were lucky to have such a loving father. This is a sweet poem filled with cherished interactions between you and him. Your rhyme theme is consistent. The only thing I wish is that the photo wasn't so blurred. I think you must have taken the photo upright and the light is hitting it and making it distorted, Try laying it flat on a table and looking down on it to take the photo. I think you then will have a copy without a glare.

My dearest Sandra, thank you so much for your lovely review and comments of my poem. I wish so bad that I had the original picture, but my sister in-law did this to it years ago and now it is the only one I have. I don't think she ever returned it to me after she made this card for me to give to him.But thanks for your suggestion as I tried everything to make it more clear. I guess it's better than not having any tho. Thanks again my dear friend.

Yes, it is better than having no photo. You are welcome.

I like this evocative poem about your father. He really comes to life in the poem.

I like how you nicely sum it up at the end with this stanza

It wasn't all that long ago my father passed away
A wonderful 10 gun salute, a beautiful display
People from all over paid respect to my dad, Merle
I was last to leave, to say goodbye from daddy's girl
