Hi Bill,
I enjoyed your entry for the No Rules Poetry contest... one word per line certainly must qualify. I especially like the way you spelled "fall"...

A comet is a special visitor to earth. It's a spectacular sight, and captures our imagination every time we look up. That's the trouble, many people are downcast these days. They see the grass and gravel instead of the moon and stars... and a comet! Hale-Bopp stayed with is for about 18 months back in 1995-1997. Presently, there are 13 comets that can be seen in the night sky with a decent amateur telescope. Six of them are fading, and three are brightening.
As far as women go, they're like asteroids, coming into view for just a moment and skimming past. We get a lot of NEOs that miss our planet. It would scare you if you knew how many. Small ones burn up in the atmosphere, with an emerald glow. I've seen two of them. Beautiful! One landed in the Atlantic waters off the eastern coast of Nova Scotia. The other was a bit closer, landing (again) in water between New Brunswick and PEI in the Northumberland Strait, possibly in Miramichi Bay. What a sight! Lots of beautiful women come and go like that, causing us men to take a second look. But comets are farther away. We can get to know them, night after night after night. They offer more than a brief show of beauty. After all, beauty is only skin deep.
We just had a huge asteroid tumble past earth in early May, 2006 JF42 was moving at roughly 25,300 miles per hour and estimated to be between 1,247 and 2,822 feet in diameter. Scary! Beautiful women are scary!
Good Luck in the contest!
Cheers,
Kimbob

Looks like I picked a winner to evoke a response. Who knew? When I think of comets, I recall the kids? jingle based on a march:
Comet! It gets your bathtub clean.
Comet! It makes your teerh turn green.
Comet! It makes you vomit,
so get some Comet
and vomit
today.

I love the linear presentation, Bill. Good job with that. The theme eludes me, but I am sure there are others that can equate a love life to a coming comet 8). Hope you have a wonderful day!!

I think it is one of the saddest facts in our existence on Earth that of lonely people searching for a receptacle for their love, like orphans searching for home to belong, beautifully written, blessings Roy

So if a "comet cometh" is there more hope for love to blossom between the narrator and his possible future love? Or does the comet spell doom so it doesn't matter? I like the unique formatting of the poem! Best wishes in the contest!

What a superb and optimistic
poem. I like the way the words are structured too.
I hope you win. Sometimes we need to write sad poems,
this is a welcome break from
that. Have a cheerful weekend. ~

This is an interesting structure for the No Rules Poetry Contest, where you have taken the visual presentation of the words to the extreme, and made this a prime element of the poem. Very nice. Kate xx

I am not sure where you want to go with this idea 'A comet cometh'. So, I made some assumptions of my own. The first stanza -- incidentally did feel as if I were falling into a deep pit as I read this work -- is very thought provoking and, I'm guessing' will hit a lot of people in different ways. I had a positive reaction. i.e. we should be open to love and changes in our lives no matter the current status. The last stanza -- I hear a comet cometh suggests major changes, maybe on a personal basis, maybe on a global basis. Did I get it at all. ann
