I am in total agreement with your comments. I too think assault weapons should be banned. I believe there should be an age Requirement to buy a gun and a waiting period but even these implements won't stop someone bent on destruction.
Enjoyed your rant.

Thank you. I don't know what they are going to do, or if there is anything that can be done. It's a copy-cat sort of thing. One shooting seems to lead to another. It makes me so sad to think of all those innocent lives lost, especially the children. Hugs.

My country banned guns 1996 after some crazed gunman shot 35 people, it took 15 days to get it through parliament, people gave up weapons in their many thousands. But we never had the problems that the theoretical excuses I've heard from in America. Our country was settled by pioneers and people escaping persecution like yours, we had explorers open up the vastness of our country, had the settling difficulties you had. But the old adage, violence begets violence, "if we live by the sword we will die by the sword" (Jesus words in Matthew) isn't that the truth? Anyway, nicely written, your poor kids, who are more likely to die by the gun, than anything else. blessings Roy

Thank you. I hope this country fares as well as yours did. It's kind of scary right now. I live way out in the country where things are not quite as bad and I have no children so I'm not it too bad a position. Hugs

You have an extremely valid rant.
You have every right to keep your shotgun handy. Unfortunately, the odds are that you will harm an innocent person, or it will be stolen, or it will be used against you, or more likely, you will be outgunned. But if it helps you to sleep better. Continue on.
But your piece diminishes us. We should do what we know to do: expand background checks, pass red flag laws, outlaw extra large capacity magazines, raise the age for assault weapons (if not ban new purchases), outlaw cop-killing, armor-piercing bullets. At least we should do what we can.
Bless you.

Thank you. And what do you think any of these solutions will do? If a person is determined to kill he will find a way despite all measures taken to prevent it. I don't have any answers and don't presume to. It just scares me that no matter what, these nutcases will kill. Hugs

Prevent one school shooting and it will be worth it all. Your local school could be next.

You shade some light for me, I am scared of guns but I had the luxury to grow up in a country with no guns:) I agree with this statement:"The cliche, people kill people not guns, is true. Evil limits our freedom and creates fear where there should be none. However, we are wrong to blame guns. A gun is an inanimate object, the same as a car. In 2021, approximately 42,915 people died in automobile accidents. Did you hear anyone say we should ban cars? No? So why should guns be different?" Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

This was an easy read, and the arguments were backed up with a good measure of logic. It is a most frightening situation that parents today must deal with when letting their children out the front door.

Thank you. It is scary. One can't lock their children up but I bet some parents wish they could. Sometimes I find myself glad to be at the end of life instead of just starting out. Hugs

Not far from my house was a young girl age 19 driving. A forty-two year old man came out from nowhere. He shot at her car. He hit the windshield, somehow, she ran him over and killed him. His blood had several drugs in his system. It was caught on video. There are so many people on drugs and are causing so much trauma and misery in our small community. Something needs to be done. Sick people are taking too many lives. Thank you for the awareness. It is sick people who are killing with guns.

Thank you. I agree with you 100%. It is drugs, alcohol, and lack of supervision for kids that is much of the problem. The girl you told about was lucky to survive. I long for the quiet days of my past. Hugs.

Gun violence is a leading cause of premature death in our country.

-This is absolutely false.

-heart disease (nearly 700,000), cancer -600,000, unintentional injuries, chronic lower respiratory diseases, stroke, Alzheimer disease, diabetes, kidney disease, influenza and pneumonia, and suicide

Almost every home in the United States possesses at least one gun, and some have several.

- This is also, a false statement. You have no way of proving this. There is no registry.

No, I see no reason on God's green earth why anyone should need or own a weapon of this nature.

- I doubt this statement, there are reasons you know of. What you should say, is that you simply do not agree with the self defense arguments.

In 2021, approximately 42,915 people died in automobile accidents.
If you can get this accurate statistic then you can do so for the others.

Yes, you have a rant, but you also have a non-fiction post. That means you have to do your due diligence to get things correct. Just as in real life, people's statements and rants are judged based on the factual or truth of those statements.

Thank you. I did not say it was THE leading cause of death, I said it is ONE of the leading causes of death, and I did look up the statistics. Also, we are not talking diseases, we are talking prmature death by avoidable factors. Go talk to some people around you and you will find a gun in most homes. And there is no reason I could find why a private citizen needs an assault rifle. They were designed for war. 30,000 lives are claimed by gun violence yearly, look it up, I did. Before you critcize me, check my facts for yourself. I stick by what I wrote as non-fiction. Hugs
reply by lancellot on 21-Jun-2022
With respect. I did check the facts. And, I am not criticizing you. I am honestly reviewing a post, that an author purposely posted and promoted to be reviewed.

    1) One of the top, as 40,000 isn't close to the top ten, that begins with 700,000.

    2) What is an assault rifle? You must define that term. Most guns are semi-auto and all guns are lethal weapons... design to kill. Even handguns are weapons of war. The 1911, 9mm, and so on.

    3) No reason you could find. Did you not research, that many home invasions by gun carrying criminals? Did not see the videos of automatic carrying MS-13, Crips, Latin Kings and other gang members who post themselves on YouTube, WorldStar, Facebook and so on as they terrorize entire communities?

    4. Designed for war. Never wondered why Chicago is called Chi-Raq?

    5. if most homes had guns, you wouldn't have millions of people advocating for banning them. Again no source is provided.

Respectfully, your listing is non-fiction. You speak of facts but provide zero sources for those facts.

That's all I was trying to get across. If you write a rant without doing that, readers will see flaws in them. This isn't an insult, but a review.

You do a good job of showing how an issue becomes endemic. For my own money (and bear in mind I'm English so guns are extremely rare here by comparison), it seems rather than talk of implementing one measure or another, it makes sense to implement all of them - ban sale of military grade weaponry, implement sterner gun controls, increase security in schools, and invest in mental health awareness to hopefully reduce the underlying triggers. Do all of those things, and maybe there might be a reduction. We have the same argument here in the UK every time there's a stabbing - ban knives!

As you say, somebody who wants to kill will always find a way. But perhaps if they can't pick up an AK47 in a department store, they might do less damage.

This was an educated and very well written piece - I salute you.

Mike

Thank you. I don't know what we can do about this epidemic of mass shooting. It breaks my heart to think of all the innocent lives ended to soon. They are just staring their lives and no one has the right to steal it from them. It is so sad and it makes me angry that we can't seem to stop it. Hugs
