How precious that she knew your love but heard it also. How precious that you had her gentle love also. Congratulations on your well deserved win. This is so sweet and shows your character:)

Wendy,
I'm sorry for your loss.
I've been there a few times; losing a beloved pet and feeling profound emptiness and sadness.
Your paw mate must have been very special.
Good luck with this one!
Blessings,
Cindy

Thank you Cindy. You understand the pain. It all came back because I wrote an entry for the Pets contest. That led to this one.
    Thank you again.

Well, my heart aches for you. I am a great animal lover. I am on my sixth doggy now and it has been so hard to send each of them on their way. Your gentle baby knew love until the last moment. Very touching.

Thank you Leather for your understanding review. Yes, it was a very hard day with hard months to follow, when I couldn't even go near the pet food aisle without getting upset.

Oh, that's so heartbreaking. I had to do that for our previous cat and I saw the light go out of her eyes and I'll never forget that. The life of a loved one is so precious and to see it go is so hard. Thanks for sharing this tender "Goodbye" in your cinquain.

This is a sweet poem for your much loved dog. I like this style of poetry.I have had to be present at the vets for two of our three dogs to be put to sleep. (My husband couldn't do it.) Like you I told her both I loved them before they went to a final sleep.

My yellow Labrador, Codi, died of cancer and I held her head as she died. It's been 18 years. Holy Cow, has it really been that long? I still miss her like it was yesterday, but she died in 2004. A loving pet is never gone forever. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us and good luck.

Nice picture and well chosen words to describe how much you cared for this dog and miss her. I know it must have been heard for you to let her go, but glad that you had the last few minutes with her.

My story, too, except I drove my twenty-year-old dog to the veterinarian. My goodness, what an emotional event and time. He felt no pain as I petted him to sleep. I cried and cried. He was the family's dog yet he slept underneath my side of the bed.

A tender poem of the last moment. I wish you the best before the committee.

Thank you Sal. Appreciated. Twenty years old - a wonderful age! It?s so hard to let them go, whatever the age.
