I love this! All the wonderful descriptive phrases about the Appachladian forest from nighttime to dawn. I love the use of the line about a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors! It brings me close to actually experiencing nature at its best in those hills.
I love nature so very much that I choose to live by Sequoia trees that stretch out to the sky!
I also live by the coast so that I can enjoy the ocean and its tidepools of teeming life.
This is well written and a great example of natural habitat full of fawns and does who drink drunkenly at the water's edge.
Thank you so much for taking me to your forest of vibrant colored flowers amidst the hills of Appachalia.
Jesse

Jesse, thank you! I know those Sequoia's and ocean scenes, from when we lived on the Peninsula in the bay area. Thank so much for your validation on this free verse entry.

Brevard N.C. was my home for a few years and the picture painted by your words is reminiscent of my view. Loved what was written though even I in passing through never heard of : Granny's bonnets, Squirrel corn,
Blue cohosh rise and stand tall among Squatroot and Dutchman's Breeches

My childhood home in north Georgia is near this beautiful trail. The area and food are just as I remembered reading your lovely poem. My family buys grits and buckwheat pancake mix from Nora's Mill.

Thank you for sharing! A wonderful memory for me.

Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the upcoming contest,
Sal :))

Hi Sal, thanks for the good wishes! Living in the Asheville area we frequent the Blue Ridge Parkway often.

I can see you've thought carefully about all your earthy, apt descriptions and analogies here. I particularly enjoyed the mist ghosts doing their sinuous dances twixt the trees.

Beautifully written, with that haunting pace you can only really achieve with free verse.

I very much enjoyed the read.

Mike
