Ah, this poem addresses something that must never be forgotten, IMO -- these men had no choice, and yes, as your poem so beautifully put it, "It didn't have a purpose; with no value did it show..." That the men who fought were treated so poorly is a nation's shame -- again, my opinion.

Wonderfully written.

Dawn, Thank you so much for your very kind review and comments of the Wall.. I received this review today, and it saddened me so that altho we know this, but don't think about it enough. She gave her permission to share this.
I now added this to my authors notes but also wanted to show the ones who have already read the poem.

My husband was drafted in that era. A war they called a conflict. He came back a different man. From the time he came home until his death, he was different. It was hard staying married to him. However, I knew the good part of him was deep within. Thank you for the awareness. 25-Jun-2022
    Thanks again my friend!

You ask a question that is asked with every conflict, draft or no. I study social psychology and the only commonality causing these conflict is man's desire to beat each other up using increasingly bigger sticks. Well written.

I feel your pain, and fifty years after haven't an answer. I could have been drafted but enlisted and served nearly ten years. Many young men never came home. Maybe one was a Rhodes scholar, and inventer, a peacemaker or more.

Tom your words are so sad but true. Thank you for your sacrifice that you made and I pray you didn't come back injured in anyway, or to the vicious protesters here. Although I spoke of a a boyfriend, I was only 16 at the time but old enough to feel the pain of a first love, Thank you my friend for your very kind words and review.

Great statement! And I like that you don't give us an answer but end with giving over the judgment to the Lord. Great rhyming and great use of repetition to ask questions we all have pondered about the Vietnam War.
Hope this does well in the contest!

You are so very kind my friend and I appreciate your lovely review and words. It certainly is the only way to find peace here on Earth, to let our Lord do what only Hr can. Yet us sinners still have times of pain where we still question things, Thank you again my friend!

Carolyn, you just told me something that I have been told from several women I know, but to hear you say it is nothing less than Bravely Angelic of you. If I leave your name out of it, do you mind if I leave your words in my author's notes? We are friends with a couple who she says the same thing and also he has Asian orange. But your words are so beautifully put and I understand one way or another. I just think it will really leave a statement if I can copy and paste it to my notes, where it will hit more captivating realizing that this was the life of one of their reviewers. And can definitely leave your name out if you like. Thank you a.million times over for those beautiful words and God bless you for staying with him and what you had to go through as know it wasn't his fault.

This is a beautiful poem about the ugliness and futility of War. A shining wall of names do not make up for the lives lost, nor does it really honor them. I think more so it's to assuage the guilt. Very well written.

Thank you so much for your very kind review and comments of the Wall. I agree Verna. I do love that God allows us to get angry but never wants us to stay there, or to do so without forgiveness.

This poem asks a very valid question, why do wars happen? I think the answer is greed and religion. That is what starts war. Thank you for sharing and good luck in the contest. Have a great weekend.

Very well written! You followed the structure well, and certainly made a statement. War is awful. A waste and a lowering of humanity. One thing is certain: God may have allowed it, but it did not come from Him. This is a very emotional poem that tugs one in as we read. Great job!

Thanks Sam, and it seems we are both on the same page with our views.
I think one might be an exception is WWll. Hitler needed to be stopped along with Japan and others who threatened our freedom. But Vietnam was about the president at that time who owned numerous helicopter factories and everyday was getting richer as they slaughtered our young men. I am thankful that my faith has now allowed me to let go of it. Thank you again my friend for your very kind review and words.

Hello Mystery poet a fantastic friday to you. I hope this finds you well. I liked your poem and along with the artwork you chose the pair really make a statement, good job. That first stanza should pass but the rhyme is a bit questionable, but I'm not a judge so good luck and have a great day.

Thank you my dear friend so much. I do have to ask about your feedback as I value it so very much and I just want to make sure I understand your point.
Do you think that the words the wall, recall and allow do not rhyme? I went back to look at them and read them over a couple times, as I love any suggestions, but I can't see a problem. Could you look at it again and tell me. I did take the words, the wall out of parentheses as maybe that might throw someone off, but like I said, I appreciate and always want my work to be the best it can be. Thank you as I also value your honesty.
