War is not fought to create freedom, or indeed maintain, apart from arguably WW2, but looking at the rest, they were fought for pragmatic reasons, or to gain territory, or simply to to defend one's ideology, I hate the misuse of the word "freedom", there's really no such thing, freedom internal, not dependent on external forces, which always confine, subdue and terrorise. Beautifully written great rhyming, flow and language, blessings Roy

I agree Roy that WWll was one that needed to be fought, but knowing that our president owned numerous helicopter factories back then and was getting richer by the day while these boys were sacrificed like animals was hard. I lost 3 very special people during that Vietnam war, and as much as it still hurts, we just can't forget them. However the anger has been written about and prayed about so many times and God has seen many of our family through it. Some are still working on it. Thank you my very dear friend for such a kind review and comments!

The author's words are thought provoking, sad, descriptive, strong,
clear and creative. I pondered on the theme of these words and thought
about why does any war happen? Why can't there peace and respect for
others? I hope God will tell us one day. The poem flows and connects well. The artwork is perfect and compliments this poem.

This is a heartfelt poem about why the Vietnam war happened. It caused so many unneeded deaths as all wars do. I think greed and power are the reasons for all wars mainly. Though some have some humanitiarian reasons.
I like the mono-rhyme tersets and the repetition. Also you have chosen
apt artwork.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Good luck in the contest.

You are so right my Joan! Yet this one seemed harder for me because our president back then owned many helicopter factories and got richer every day our boys were being blown to pieces. All so his pocketbook could grow!
Thank you my dear friend for your very kind review and comments!

You're very welcome. Some politicians want power and riches more than they want to help the people they serve. That is sad.

Tremendous! You had a lot of rules and restrictions in writing this piece, and it looks like you stuck to all of them while still making this statement that can't be made enough. What a senseless, stupid time in our country's existence. Great work, and I wish you luck in the contest.

Thank you so very much Laurie. It was senseless and is still hard, but we don't ever want to forget these boys and men. Thanks for your very kind review and comments! I truly appreciate it my friend!

In my opinion, a strong piece that applies to any and all war - written in protest and demand. This write's rhyme is a bit forced in spots, but it complies fully with the prompt, both as a statement, including a message of spent lives and null outcome. Best wishes in the contest with this striking work...

Thank you so much Eve. You are so kind. And I understand what you were saying about the lines as I had to back and start again myself to get the rhythm right. However I thank you and will look at it again and see if there is anything I can change to get them more even. I appreciate the feedback so very much. And I thank you for such a kind review and words.

Great rhyming, and a great entry for the contest. I am sure that the echo the sentiment of a lot of people. Wars never seem to really accomplish anything and always result in a lot of lost lives.

You wrote an AWESOME poem regardless of contest, Mystery
Author. Its presentation is as awesome, too. I liked the color
scheme, the rhyming, the question in line three of every verse,
and the overall true message. I always support authors who
write in this genre. Your words made a strong statement that
many believe (really all should believe). Those young men didn't
ask for what they received--their reception upon returning to the
US was horrendous. Those id**ts should have been thankful it
wasn't them that had to face the war. I understood what The
Wall reminded you of during those years. However, that
doesn't diminish your thoughts for those whose names
appear on it--or you wouldn't have written this emotional
poem.
Best wishes in the contest, Jan

Thank you so very much Jan. The fact that you know exactly where I am coming from means the world to me. I didn't blame God as I actually blamed the president at the time who owned numerous helicopter factories and got richer every day that the war was going on. That may be in the past, but we should never forget the Vietnam war that senselessly took so many of these sons, brothers, grandson's and friend's lives away from us. Your beautiful review my friend may be framed, as that is how much it means to me. I can't thank you enough for those gracious six stars and all of your very kind words. God bless you my very dear friend!

Excellent job of fulfilling the contest requirements. Your poem is filled with a lot of emotion and asks the question we all think about--Why did this war happen? Yes, the Vietnam veterans were treated poorly when they returned from the war. Great use of the Wall as the background for your poem. You illustrate how the war impacts families with the loss of their loved ones. You really bring out the emotions that others feel when they visit the Wall. I suppose we could question any war. You have some commas you really don't need, such as after for and wall and politicians and who. judi

Thank you so much Judi! I truly appreciate your feedback, as LOL, I have an addiction to commas. No, its not that bad, but I learned from college writing and they really emphasized them back then. I will go in and fix that when I am done here. I also thank you for your kind review and comments. Not sure if how old you are, but this was during the Vietnam era where it was mostly about the president back then who had numerous helicopter factories and got richer by the day, back during that war. So thanks again for your lovely words too my friend!

You're very welcome. This was beautifully written. I certainly remember John Kerry's campaign for president, and how he tried to label all the soldiers who fought in Vietnam as worse than Genghis Khan. So true, they were a lot fonder of commas then than they are now. Best of luck in this contest. This sounds like a winner. judi

This is a very well written poem about the war that we wish had never happened. We tend to blame God for so many things, but in reality it is the devil we should blame. He is the evil one. You used very good descriptive words and very nice imagery. Thank you for sharing! love and blessings Teri

Thanks Teri, and yes for a while I did blame God, but mostly blamed our president who had numerous helicopter factories at that time and got richer with every day that war happened. However my faith has led me away from anger for anything, but still find that we should never forget these awesome men that died for such a senseless war. Thanks for all your kind words my friend, as I truly appreciate it.

I am right there in that question of yours:"
I know that it is wrong, I no longer have this anger stored
But greed and what it stood for, was what I so deplored
Why did this war happen? Perhaps someday, you'll tell us Lord" Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

Thank you Iza and you are so very sweet. As much as I no longer carry the anger, I still feel that we should never forget that these men died for such a senseless war. Thanks for your sweet and kind words my friend.
