What a beautiful scene you've described, and how inviting it sounds. We've been invited to join some relatives at their apartment in Florida later this month. It's far from rural, but we're hoping to find some of the peace and serenity we can't quite find here in New York at the moment.

I love your poem's rhyme and flow. Combined with the perfect picture you chose, it all combines to create exactly the mood you're describing.

Hi Lisa,
A calming poem. You tell us about a day in the country, hiking through fields of green, clean air and gorgeous views from a hilltop. Always a pain to go back to the city noise, smells, and population. I love the artwork, like a quilt. No wonder there were mountain men.
I enjoyed the "quartet" of 5-7-5s, and the rhyme scheme as well.
Thanks for sharing!
Hugs,
Kimbob

It would be wonderful to live in a place so serene. I have no idea where a place would be that looks like the picture does. Clean water is not anywhere that I know of. I liked the picture and it goes great with your poem. This looks like something in the Bible in Genesis. In the beginning of time. Thank you for sharing.

Many scenes like this exist in New Zealand, where I live. Clean water, fresh air, happy people. I am sad for you that you can't experience beauty and serenity.

Oh my, I am sad. It is terrible in the states. Near Las Vegas, Lake Mead, they are finding dead bodies, boats, etc. You are lucky.

Oh how awful!! I do consider myself very lucky to live in deep south New Zealand, away from most dramas.

    Yes, you are so lucky.

A look at the world from different views. How one is open and free and the other busier and more crowded. You take in the beauty when you can because may not be there forever.

That's exactly right - we must appreciate each day in nature because it is under threat from development and 'progress'.

I can imagine this escape to the beauty and renewal of nature, and the peace it brings, described so well. I can also see the reluctance to return to normal life with its cares and responsibilities, in a place that is visually and emotionally less appealing. Excellent triple rhymes throughout. Well written.

I agree that there's nothing like being in nature! It's restorative to body, mind, and soul! Great job with the mono-rhyming of your 5-7-5 stanzas and presenting an entire hike from beginning to the slow return home.

What a delightful poem. I loved the fast pace of it and your choice of rhyming words. Your simple and sweet message is very relatable. I think we all need a bit of nature to balance us from civilization. Regards, Lilly

Thanks Lilly. 'Civilization' causes stressing - being in nature is a blessing.

I'm loving the matching rhymes and sentiments. Popping into the city and going back home afterwards is cathartic. The contrast of chaos and serenity. Home is a restful place and when it is in the countryside it is even more inviting, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

You bring your reader to the country with serene, and beautiful imagery.
In reading your words, I was for a brief moment in the countryside breathing that fresh air and enjoying the scenery.
Perfectly written and thank you for the view.
Best wishes,
Mary

This poem, Afternoon Interlude, fills the readers' minds with the relief of nature's curative balm. The sights and openness draw out the sadness.........................
