One thing for sure, you will never forget him. With the touch of shoe strings, his memories will always be there. Then man made it possible for you to run with less pain than normal. It was great you, and he had a great friendship. Thank you for sharing a heartfelt poem. Have a great week.

Thanks, Carolyn. I wear his shoes for everyday use as well as running - oops, I'm only slowly jogging now.

What a delightful old-school type friendship.
I live how he was proud of his craft and that's the way it should be..simple and significant

You have a great rhymed and metered poem. Your rhymes are strong without being forced Your meter is
near flawless. You might want to re-check your syllable count

Best wishes in the contest. If only we had more friendships like that today.

Thanks, Katiemae. I usually go with iambic meter, but occasionally I will try something different. Robert Service uses a meter like I have done here quite a bit. It's a combination of iambic and anapest.

This is such a warm story, written in gentle rhyme with such serenity and grace I must pause...

Sit still, a moment, to recall those "Bart Hersey" improbable friends God has put in my path...

It's so easy to drown in negativity these days.

Kind souls abound...

We need the only open our minds and hearts!

Perfect!

A very well-written and great introduction and tribute to a good friend.
Your words give him life again and have him be a friend and man that many of us would like to have met and also call a pal.
Good luck in the contest.

Paul,
This seems to me like each of you walking a mile in the other one's shoes. This is such basic ground work we all need to do. You have incorporated lovely thyme and a special running rhythm. I think you win the race but a tie with your champion friend, Bart Hersey. Yes, his spirit is still with you, from start to finish line and he's cheering you on! Go Paul!

On December the 12th last year, my dear friend died of Covid. It was so sudden, that I was devastated and broke down in public. I'm sorry for your loss. The poem was beautiful. Great job and best wishes in the contest.

Thanks, amahra. I am sorry about your friend. When these things happen unexpectedly, it is extra painful.

A wonderful tribute to the old ways and the good old days, where we walk a mile in someone's else's shoes, or great distances to do anything for a friend. Your poem celebrates that very well.

Sparkling moment in your poem is how with a handshake and a smile a friendship was made.

Thanks for this wonderful tribute, to a friend. A very worthy contest entry.

Thanks, Marien. Bart was a special man. I try to keep in touch with his wife. She is special, too.

One of the great joys of life is meeting and becoming friends with someone so remarkable that the joy of loving friendship appears why we are even here at all. To be that for someone else is or should be everyone's mission in life. How great to be someone's unforgettable person.

Paul,
This is a nice ode to a lost friend. Sorry for your loss. It sounds like he hade something he could have patented. It is a talent to make shoes that take away pain.
It flows wall and the rhyme is unforced. The artwork matches well.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy

Thanks, Joan. As I am getting older, I am running less. I've got to get back out there.

No problem, Paul. I walk every day that weather permits.

This is a wonderful poem for the contest. I love the way it flowed. I could feel the emotion in it as I read it. I could feel the pain in the writer's feet. My feet hurt at times when I am on them a long time. I love the ending and how lacing up the shoes reminds him of Bart and he can feel his spirit with him at that time. Well done.

Thanks for the review, Saint. I've got to lace up those shoes more often. I'm gaining weight again.
