Hello Michael, I am not sure if you are speaking from your own experience of a grandfather of a child in a school shooting, and would appreciate hearing if that is the case, as I can't imagine anything worse in the world. We went from having to worry about our three kids and then they each had two so our worry went from three to nine as as grandparent knows how they never stop worrying about their adult children as well. Regardless if this is from one of your own, you most definitely have my compassion and horror of what that must be like. If you are writing as a concerned grandfather for those who have been through this, then you have my utmost respect. Either way you did a lovely job my friend, and I commend you for your humongous heart too!

Thank God I pray every day not to be faced by such tragedy. But I have worked with families and children for over fifty years of my life. I have a strong awareness of the impact of deaths on family members, the little brother who's not there anymore, the inconsolable mother, the distraught father. Often teary eyed, I feel the pain and heartache, when I turned the Tv as you referred to in your poem and watch these horrible highly drummed up news events. I don't know what I would do if any of my grandchildren had to face such finality.

There's one thing for sure, those that are shot in a mass killing never gave to worry their opinions are, I've always associated guns with war, killing, are our neighbours our enemies now? Beautifully written, blessings Roy

Such incidents, which have become so common, inflict so much pain on families who were going on with their normal daily life. Thanks Roy, I am always appreciative of your comments.

I can't even begin to imagine the heartbreak one must experience after enduring a tragedy like one of the recent "school-shootings." But I know I could never support taking legal guns out of legally registered citizens hands as an attempt to stop this madness. I truly think arming more citizens would help solve the problem.

I do know someone has to do something more than talk or form committees.

I appreciate your thoughts about my poem. I have authored other poems about this topic. I understand the feelings and rights of legally registered guns. That is why I have difficulty comprehending the need for war weapons usage in a civilized society. Just a step in the right direction might make my grandchildren less fearful. Thanks for caring.

Thank you for expressing the shocking hypocrisy of insisting on gun rights as constitutional but not considering the safety of the children. Best wishes in the contest!

Sadly so. Guns supersede the better element of our society, namely children. It is frightful to think that all my school age grandchildren have the potential to be subject of such violence

This is a good poem. It meets the requirements. The font size is okay but could be a tad larger. The presentation is also missing. It needs a visual or colored font. Like food we eat most things with our eyes first. That's why great illustrations help sell many books. The visual draws one in and the words glues one to the pages. A better presentation would attract more readers and enhance your poem. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for your comments. I must admit that I was rather in a rush to publish this poem. It conveyed an important moral message about children's confrontation with weapons. However, I do agree a picture might elicit a stronger response. I am a newcomer to this site and still must learn the tricks of the trade. Thank you very much and I appreciate your comments.
