Glide - now there's an interesting name! I may have to use that in an upcoming story (if you don't mind, of course). This was a fascinating read about how, even in civil war times, concepts like 'sides' were a lot more complicated than history would have us believe. I love your ending thoughts about former enemies having descendants who befriend or even marry one another without knowing about the potential blood feud. Just as sides are complicated, they can become meaningless over time.

Feel free to use Glide, my brother and a cousin have middle names after him, their grandpa.

This is a great entry for the contest. Your story is well written, detailing how your ancestors fought on opposite sides of the war, and yet later their descendants met and married. Thank you for sharing.

This is an incredible story. Your ancestors went through a great deal back then.
Your writing is informative, and descriptive.
I received a history lesson while reading this, thank you for that:)
Learning about our ancestry can be a daunting undertaking, but always worth it.
The story has a nice balance between facts and emotion.
I appreciate the presentation, as I enjoy shorter paragraphs.
Good luck in the contest.

I have to wonder how much of this research you did on your own. I would think it would be time consuming, but rewarding to be able to write it down in the clear and concise manner that you did.

Very insightful question. I did a lot of research, but the Mississippi Wade side of the family was done by a cousin I met in the process. I did all the research on the Tennessee Dodd family. Thank you for reading.

Seems to be free of grammatical error.
Interesting, but your narrative lacks flavor or color. Pretty straight forward reporting. I would think a FanStory writer would employ dressier language and style.
Best wishes.

You provided just enough detail and description to make the story clear and interesting. Even though there were some unknowns, you tied the known pieces together to draw a meaningful conclusion. Best wishes in the contest.

I think of all wars that have been fought over the centuries Civil wars are the worst, it's were friend fights friend, brother confronts brother, mothers grieve for more than just the physical death, but the possible death of a family, I've toured the war sites and they are worse than all other wars combined, 621,000 deaths, more Al the combined deaths in other conflicts, beautifully written, thank you, blessings Roy

You did a really good job of explaining how you ended up with Southern great grandpas who fought on opposite sides in the Civil War. Beat of luck in the ancestry story contest.

What an amazing story of Great grandfathers which was
so well written. I enjoyed reading it. Your organization,
Mystery Author was great, the flow was smooth, and the
research accurate and valuable at the same time. One could
make a timeline from the information you provided. However,
it was easy to follow your story as it progressed.
Best wishes in the contest, Jan
