I love this story. The relationships common the Southerners is unique. I found out in my late 60s that a person I thought was only related to my half sister, was not only related to me as well, but her mother and my mother were best friends growing up and had been married to biological brothers. What a tangled web are Southern family relations.

That was really interesting, and to think they fought each other. It's amazing what we learn in our ancestory searches, had either one of your Great Great Grandfathers died in that war, you most likely wouldn't be here telling us. That's quite creepy, really. Well written and interesting story. It begins with a great picture and title - Is there really such thing a Southern Yankee -- lol. Was the war ever mentioned in your family as you grew up? I remember studying US history in school and the emphasis that was placed on the reasons for the way. The story taught was "The war had nothing to do with slavery, but rather was all about states rights."
I don't know that much has changed. Good writing. ann

My husband has two great-great grandfathers who would have fought the Civil War from different stated but were on the same side and in the same battle. No clue if they ever met. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I enjoyed reading and wish you the best of luck.
