loved this powerful poem about bi-polar disorder and how it feels to have such a disorder. I like the images, the colors, the racing thoughts etc. I sometimes think I have a slight bipolar disorder but then most of the time I am pretty content.

Thanks Jake! I think all of us are a little bit bipolar to one degree or another. I?m happy you liked the poem and grasped the jest of the figurative meaning of the colors.

You have described bipolar in a very creative way. It helps to understand how this disorder manifests itself for some.
Happy you also have bright and sunny days.

Well done.
Blessings
Janet

Your vividly descriptive, expressive poem reminds me of stream-of-consciousness writing. You have used meaningful figures of speech to refer to the entrance of the black that won't go away.

I take it that you don't actually see colors inside your head; rather, you are using them to describe the kind of day you're having or the mood that you're in. I can only hope that your future days become more pinks and purples.

Keep writing - keep starting. If you don't have the energy to finish on one day, do so the next or the next.

I have a friend with bipolar who is a professional musician. When she's in a "black" place she has trouble being creative - but when her medication is working she is able to write, record and perform her music. I hope you find more days like this than the "gunky" ones.

You've given us an intimate look inside the mind of someone who suffers from this disorder. Thank you for putting yourself out there.

I am so sorry that you do not see the wonderful colours in life and that black crept into your life. I took a walk in the park today and I saw kids laughing and playing, birds performing their ritual dances for their mates, the sun was beating on my back and the flowers had a vibrant colour that filled me with joy, I am sorry that you can't also see all this, a poignant write, love Dolly x

Dolly, thank you so much much for your kind review. Thankfully I don?t always feel this way. I have sunny days most days. The dark days are mostly few and far between. Writing helps me a lot. Bless you.

I have never heard of bipolar disorder described like this before! Different colors you say, huh? I am trying to understand what the colors mean, and I guess black means darkness and sadness and all that stuff we try to get rid of when we feel rotten to the core.
I am sorry you feel bad and I wish I could do something to help you. Feel free to PM me anytime you feel blue or black as the case may be.
Thanks for painting this picture in your mind full of colors.
Jesse

I'm praying that your reality is restored to what appears to be madness for, I can't give much, but what I have I give to you. This beautifully written, reaching out fo small blessings, and give that willingly, just centre your thoughts on what is normal, not the other, well done, blessings Roy

This poem brought lots of thought. I had a relative who was bipolar, and I know she would have agreed with you. You expressed your feelings so very well. Fortunately her medication helped somewhat.

Verna, thanks for understanding. Yes medication does help but the dark days still creep through sometimes. I am sorry about your family member who struggles with this disease also. Thank you for your kind review.

It's only once we start that we find the inspiration and the will to finish :-). This is a stark and meaningful way to describe things, using colours to represent aspects of your mind. I love the use of colloquial language (like gunky) to make this feel even more personal.

Great writing.

Mike

I can imagine, while colors are lovely, when they are scribbled on your brain through bipolarity, it must be a horrendous challenge to untangle your emotions and thoughts!

This poem is an indication that you can do it!!!

I bet writing he!ps ground you...
