You and your friend Jim and heroes Wendy and this help has not gone unnoticed by those who are in need. Jim certainly had a long journey to join you and I admire his tenacity. I certainly hope these people can return to their homes or be rehoused, it is a terrible tragedy, thank you for telling us about it, love Dolly x

Thanks Dolly, so much. We certainly don't count ourselves as heroes, but the SES guys in the rescue boats do an amazing job. The trouble with rehousing is that they often can no longer afford to build again further away, and some have lost work, equipment, or businesses also devastated by flooding. And the builders were already unable to keep up with demand after the last floods. There is probably close to a two year wait to get a new home built now. Ongoing repercussions.

How splendid to get a first hand account of what we, thousands of miles away in UK, hear about on the TV news.

Shortly after I joined the Royal Marines in 1959 there were some major floods in Exmouth, quite close to our camp. We were turned out to help in the cleaning up phase and I remember the mess well. By all accounts those floods were as nothing compared to what you are going through in Oz. Great work.

Thank you Jim. Yes, even after the rain stops the flood waters won't recede for several weeks, and then the clean-up is quite daunting. Some had only just got their places in order from the last floods. The river level nearest to me is about 14.5 metres above its normal level. Anything over 12 metres is considered a "major" flood. Fortunately we are high and sufficiently distant.

Thanks for keeping us updated on the flooding in your area and some of the stories related to the flooding. Very well written. It kept me engrossed in the events. Well done.

Thank you again! Yes, I think I had two aims here - to share that we can all do something kind towards those who are struggling, and to show that we need to appreciate all that we have, mostly undeserved. Raising awareness of events elsewhere keeps us very connected too. We are a global community.

Wow, thank you for being there and listening and caring! I'm sure giving some relief to the bone-weary mother to nap a little was a blessing! Thank you for showing us that even Jim with poor health himself was so willing to help. God uses the "weak" to do His great will. Yes, will be praying for your next service tomorrow.

Thank you so much for your caring help! I found your essay very interesting in spite of no drama or surprise ending. I found it interesting to understand what a volunteer does at a center like this.
. "However, his heart was (is) a heart of gold. "
. 'fear which tends to float at such times, " did you mean flow rather than float.... though with the floods maybe you did mean float....

Yes, I did mean "float" to go with the theme, but yes, it is probably better to use present tense as Jim continues to have a heart of gold. Thank you for following my stories and supporting them. I appreciate it.

I am continuing to pray and am praying for you that you can continue to be a shining light in these people's lives. You're showing true Christian spirit.

jim would probably be in his eighties, or very close. (Jim)

Wendy, this is also making big news in the USA, most news broadcasts have it as one of the top stories. I heard an old-timer say, "God always liked a good flood over a drought." I never was sure what he meant, but I am certain that you and Jim and doing the Lord's work. WE are thinking of you and take care! Terry.

Thank you very much Terry. We had a month's worth of rain in a few hours and the dam was already full. It's largely a result of some poor decisions re releasing the water from the full dam before we had more rain. The dam is several times the size of Sydney Harbour. But the river was already full too, with water from other smaller rivers.

What wonderful caring people you are Wendy, Jim understands that even in his senior years, he feels like he's still of great use, not that he thinks he's anything, it's not the life you have, it's the the five you give, after all Jesus not only gave up His holiness for us, but everything that goes with it, even to His last breath and His last drop of blood. Beautifully written, we need people like you and Jim, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy. Here I just wanted to show that any person can offer such care, and our group is a Christian group so hopefully that light shines as well.

This was an excellent review of your care-giving day. I found myself being thankful over and over for the comforts in my life that are missing in these persons. I loved your description of Jim, a man filled with love and dedicated to caring for others.

Natural disasters always seem to have the most profound effects on those who have the least. I hope your floods will recede rapidly, and without to much further damage. Good luck with your support role. Kate xx

Thank you Kate. Not too much rain yesterday thankfully, although it will take weeks for the waters to recede. The clean-up is a difficult process, and many had only just got things in order from the last floods. I appreciate your encouragement.
