This piece speaks of the pain of broken relationships, and how hard it is to move on from them. You speak of 'bearing no ill will', but there is plenty of bitterness in the voice as you describe how you were left behind and robbed, after believing so much in the relationship. Justified, yes. There is this sense of trying to move on, and yet looking back over your shoulder at these moments of bitter disappointment when things didn't turn out as you hoped. estory

Your poem has a natural, but calm flow. Here's what I mean...I love that you did not bold a lot of words for effect or drama, which I would have understood! You didn't enlarge the font so the words command attention before even being read. The narrative words flow through and sink in my mind calmly, so that I somehow knew, before the poem was over, that you were okay. Well done!

There is a fine lesson here. Do not trust or rely on man alone. Man is flawed and cannot provide all that you need. Only God can do that. Love whomever you choose to love, but place your hopes and trust on God alone, he will lead you and guide you. Man can and will do mostly whatever pleases himself alone. God loves you and will never leave you alone. When there is a separation between man and God, it is man who leaves not God. I am so happy for you. Love man, but love God more.

Sadly, there are many who've suffered heartbreak and pain from a failed relationship. It's just nice to know that someone has overcome the abuse and mistreatment to start a new life. Good for you! Thanks for sharing.

In one instant I sit here feeling the pain and heartbreak you went through, next I'm cheering and applauding you for the bravery and growth you show.
Down, but never out. Faith and the light that shines within a soul outweighs any form of darkness that blights our way. Yes, of course it's damn hard at the time when one feels like their heart and soul have been misused in the worst way, but hey((((, when life turns that corner and you know and feel what you've achieved to get to where you are now... magic.
Truly enjoyed reading your beautiful, writing. Yes, there's heartache there, and yes, pitfalls, but there is inspiration, salvation and personal growth beyond the use of words also.... and that's what shines in this poem... the wins over adversity... kudos!

There's a quiet triumph to this, soothingly flowing beneath the surface rather than crashing and raging. This is a beautiful piece about transition and acceptance and not letting life keep you down.

Well, obviously you have expressed yourself very sincerely but I'm afraid I don't find it poetic in any way. Of course free verse doesn't need to rhyme but I think it should still have some kind of internal pulse to separate it from just prose. Occasionally you do, like 'the ornament on a tree'. I think it needs more imagery. You way overuse the word 'me'. I would go through and every time you see it think about how you can get rid of it. Many times it would be quite easy eg you could say 'tricked and lied' in line two. Hope this isn't too nasty,but I think now you have got it off your chest a re-write would be good.
