Ciao!
This is a superb ( and timely) senryu.
I had never heard of this peculiar grass
I love how you made the connection with brave / fallen soldiers.
Like too many youngsters, growing up, I thought fighting for one s country was honourable and dying, heroic.
Leaders take advantage of this and send their youth to fight and often die without much thought.
Not to mention those that come back maned and mentally and psychologically wounded.
PS: Andrei Bolkonski believed in battle glory but when he was dying on the battle field he realised what war was really :
a horrific, blood mess.

I like your poem- good presentation- nice picture-
Interesting information in your notes- haven't seen this type of grass before- story describes a battle field red with the blood of soldiers- reminds of the war in Ukraine- daily shelling- I can only imagine the horror of being in that situation-

This was amazing, I definitely have learned something new to me. I really never thought of 'blood grass' and it flammable. I really enjoyed your words because they used the effects of blood grass as effectively as poppies for the brave soldiers, Gypsy. Very well done, greatly enjoyed. The picture was great. Blessed be n hugs!

Amazing, how in nine syllables you catch my breath. There is a rawness in brevity that strikes a compassionate chord. If only we would learn to listen!
I've only just left a six on your previous poem! This one is equally striking and deserving!
You are a force of poetry!

This of course reminds me of that wonderful song 'where have all the flowers gone'. It is as though you have concentrated its substace, and distilled it into the minimal essence. Well done. Kate xx

I guess that it's called "blood grass" because it's red? I looked it up and it's one of the ten most invasive plants in the world. I wouldn't want to plant it. I liked how you used it to reflect on the carnage of life lost in the war. I keep hoping it would stop!!

Another fine poem, Gypsy: what a senseless war that was. I remember growing up being scared of graduating from High School and being drafted. Of course I was much too young to worry about that, but still, I didn't know it would long be over by the time I graduated
