I understood the poem more deeply once I read the lyrics and got in tune with your train of thought. It's very poignant and moving and expresses thoughts others are not normally aware of, because they're so personal. The song and poem are a good match.
Well done!

This is an entertaining piece, Mike. I enjoyed the video, and am still pondering your poem. There's a dark regretful feel to the poem and the music. I don't like to reread. so, I'm going to sit and ponder. :)
That's why I love your work. Best, JohnC.

Thank you, John :-). I line that - sometimes, I'll reread several times and just keep repeating the words without absorbing them. A little time is probably a better way.
I always appreciate your reviews.

This is a most beautiful, though sad, poem, wonderful in so many ways. I love the unusual rhyme pattern and the melodic meter which never falters from start to finish, and I thoroughly enjoyed the word choices, most creative and unique. I always enjoy learning new words, so thank you for introducing me to 'threnody.' That's an added plus to the enjoyment of this extraordinary poem. I wish you'd entered this in the rhyming poem contest. It would surely have won.

Thank you so much - what a lovely response :-). I didn't think about contests. I was worried I'd thrown a lot of big words into this one, but that was part of the format I gave myself in the first stanza, and wanted to see whether I could keep it up. I'm thrilled you enjoyed it!

When my stepdaughter died, a result of drug abuse through the years. I was saddened, but not that deeply. Time has caused me to reevaluate our sometimes stormy and somewhat rocky relationship. I have from some of the men she loved and who loved her in return. all of them related that the big problem for then was none were able to live up to the standard she felt I had set. I never knew that. As I have come to know how much she loved me, it kills me to realize how much I loved her, how ashamed I am to not have done more to show her that love. Mourning the death of a loved one is never easy, and I do not think it is supposed to. I do not believe that we should beat ourselves up over it, but we can resolve to not make those mistakes ever again with others in our life.

Thank you so much. There's no greater compliment than when someone shares something of themselves off the back of a poem. It can be difficult to see a situation clearly when you're in the middle of it - it's only in regretful retrospect we have a more balanced view. As you say, we should not beat ourselves up over things that cannot be changed, but yes - can always learn.
Thanks again :-)

The artwork you chose is absolutely perfect for this poem. This poem is very creative, as is all of your work, and causes the reader to ponder. The words you chose cause the reader to feel. Great job.

The older I get, it seems the more emotions I have. It's too bad they're not more positive. What I find is, the less news I read concerning what's going on in the world... that I can do nothing about, and this would also include my personal relationships, I seem to be a little better off. Your poem was most interesting. Best wishes.

Interesting and sad, this poem displays a powerful use of words to convey the feeling regarding death and perhaps beyond. The author's note together with the video is awe inspiring. Evi

Excellent piece of poetry which makes you think on, as all good poetry does. Thinking, feeling, hearing, and induces a note of mystique with the added quality of the picture. Well done.

and creative. I pondered on the words of this poem and found them
sad and regretful. Thank you for the music and lyrics - I liked the music
and the words to this song. The artwork goes with the words of this poem.

Thank you, Maria :-). This song has always inspired that sense of wistful regret so I'm really glad my poem managed to touch on the same notes.
