The story is easy to follow. April definitely is difficult to be trained. As a trainer you have learned well how to handle a difficult horse.
You did a good job to describe April's behavior.

Thanks for sharing

Thank you. I would have liked to explain more but there is a limit of 500 words in the contest. Glad you enjoyed it. Hugs.

What a great conclusion! We teachers always need to be learning and if from other teachers, so much the greater the rewards! Good for you to do the research and learn well in order to teach well.
You're so brave to teach horses. Even a colt could be too big to handle but you succeeded! What a great story! Best wishes in the contest!

As a city girl, I loved the adventure and imagery of a biting and kicking horse, and wished I could have seen how you drive a horse one way and then the other around a pen. Based on the picture, April is a beautiful horse with a mild-mannered racial expression. I would delight in more horse stories. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you. Don't let that expression fool you. April was one of the meaness horses I ever dealt with. Hugs

Isn't it funny, I can remember a fellow parent who was amazed that there was such a thing as a naughty child, (he had two well behaved children) he listened amazed that some kids gave their caring parents a hard time, until he had a third child...so yes, why not in the animal kingdom? Beautifully written dear friend, blessings Roy

Thank you. I agree with you. Horses have different personalites too. April was the first one I ever dealt with that had such and ugly disposition. Hugs.

She looks lovely. I'm sure you really enjoy your life training horses, it must be so satisfying when you succeed. April really did have anger concerns, but you managed to get it out of her. I enjoyed reading this story, well done and good luck in the contest. :) Sandra xx

Thank you. My horse training days are long past. I'm 76 now and when I trained April I was in my forties. It can be dangerous work and one needs to be quick on their feet. I would have loved to tell more of how the training was done but the word limit didn't allow it. Hugs.

Why don't you write a short story about it? I'm sure many of us would love to read it. :))

This is a beautiful story of determination on both your part and April's. It proved that it can conquer attitudes and create bonds. I didn't realize you were a horsewoman, and teacher. Well written. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you. My horse days are over as I'm 76 now. I enjoyed them in my younger years. Hugs.

I very much enjoyed this informative read - it's great that you learnt a new technique that then hoped you going forward :-)

Spag notes:

'anyone who dared to invade her personnel space' - 'personnel' should be 'personal'

'I had never failed to saddle train a colt and must find a way' - needs something before must, like 'knew I'

This is a great entry for the Teaching Affected Me contest. As a horse person myself, I really connected with it, and feel like even non-horse people will find it an interesting and unique read about teaching. I love the lesson at the end. Quite true.

Cheers,
Erika

Thank you. It's nice to meet another horse person on here. I'm sure you can understand how difficult some horses can be. Hugs.
