This is my first time reading your interview work. I appreciate it. I am also a fan of both Giraff. and many others mentioned in your posting. It was fun learning about someone whose I admire. Blessings. Barbara

Hello Terry a good day to you as always I hope this finds you well. I just love when you do the interviews, it gives a deeper insight to what make these good writers tick, love hearing about their thought processes and techniques. Great advice and a wealth of tips and tricks for those receptive and smart enough to use the resources. Great work as always!

Very interesting interview!

Garreth, the man, has a wit and wisdom about him that, along with your spot on questions gave a greater
understanding of what prompted him to write...

As well as what prompted him to write well!

I especially enjoyed his answer to how his life experiences have influenced his writing...

A wonderful job from both of you it on this!

Hi Terry,
Love your interviews with site celeb's. I find them most entertaining as well as a tad informative when the interviewee allows.
Gatheth gave enough to get a small insight into his motivation, his life and writing.
Very well done once again Terry... surly your interviews are proving to be a site favourite read. I know for one, I really enjoy them.

With our thoughts we create...
closer connections.

Kind regards,
James.

Thank you for sharing another interesting interview. I don't remember reading any of his posts, but will check them out. I like the line: "But, it's important to remember that the only true competition should be with yourself." That encourages us to always trying to improve.

I am relatively new to FanStory, especially when compared to some the "names dropped" in this article, so I enjoyed hearing about a fellow writer. one who is as accomplished as Girrafmang.

The interview was good, it gives us an idea of who this guy, Girrafmang, is but one part I particularly liked and can relate to very well, is the brief discussion on reviewing. I can whole heartedly agree with every word in his response. This is the one best process FS has to offer and we need to take advantage of it rather than just play with it.

I have, justifiably so, rated articles 3 or 4 only to find that other reviewers have awarded 5 and 6? My reviewing is based solely on FS guidelines plus some personal guidelines for how many stars versus how many errors and how critical are the errors or are they just suggestions. How do we improve if not by learning by our mistakes.

I wrote a technical book back in the nineties, for the American Society for Quality Control, ASQC at the time, it has since been renamed ASQ. They accepted my manuscript and published it. But the real value was their review process. They sent my original manuscript back to me with so much red ink on it I thought it was going to bleed to death. It was liking having a religious experience of sorts.

I made every single change though and it went on to be a best seller and win their "Golden Quill" award. Which I am sure would not have happened had they just awarded me "five-stars" and moved on. I have often thought of writing another book for them if for no other reason than the perfect review process.

Some of the reviews I read on FS lead me to believe we should have a review process for the reviews themselves. I know, it gets redundant after a while. But I know I want a true review with mistakes pointed out and errors highlighted, and positive suggestions made, for every one of my submitted articles, else what do I get from the review?

Very good interview Terry, very telling.

Gary, thank you for reading, and what a great story you have about your book. You might consider that story as a nonfiction piece on "One man's Experience" about reviewing and how his book won an
award and best seller. I think people here would enjoy it. Think about it. Terry.

Did you notice I didn't write one "Observation?" I bit my lip, but I kept my distance. It was a good interview, one that needed to be done.

Methinks I will go read some of "Gs" work to see if the interview holds up.

    Good job.

Gary, I was so proud of you. I just did not want to spoil it by me mentioning I had warned you. Check out his writings, he is very creative. Thanks, Terry.
reply by GARY MACLEAN on 26-Jul-2022
Yes, I wasn't going to mention it either. There was no need to. I'm heading his way right now.

You asked the perfect questions to get the answers to questions many of us have probably wondered. I am specifically glad you asked the question about the pen name, Giraffmang. I also think the questions were asked in perfect chronological order, with questions about the lesser known personal facts asked first, and the major facts about writing and reviewing on FanStory asked next. I enjoyed this interview.

Terry,

Good interview. You asked questions that elicited fascinating and informative answers. There are many people with fascinating and diverse backgrounds who have somehow found their ways to FanStory. Good interview for both of you.

Good work. Keep up with the interviews.
I'm not a big fan of the 'get everything down and worry about it later' approach. - Giraffmang sees it all in his head and simply writes it all down, but doesn't leave a sentence until he's satisfied. Well, there's the difference between he and I right there. He's an intelligent writer, and I'm a stupid story teller! Were (was?) I to linger on a sentence until satisfaction, I not only would not get a story written, I wouldn't get the sentence finished! All too often, if I don't scribble as fast as I can, I lose my story altogether, ending up with one that hardly resembles my first thoughts. (Prob'ly for the better. lol)
Best wishes.

Wayne, thank you for reading; Gareth is a really good writer. I love your description of your writing, LOL. I have a story that I am not sure when I will post, but you inspired it, and you are even acknowledged in the notes. The story is entitled "The School of Hard Knocks."

There will be one interview this coming Sunday with Ric Myworld. I promise a couple of surprises about him. Thanks, Terry.

This is another good interview. I have learnt a lot from this man myself and all the ones you have interviewed, with the advice they have given me over the years, has made me a better writer. Another great writer who you might want to interview is sandramitchell and maybe lancealot. Also, pearl edwards lol. There are so many on here lol. If it were me, my whole time would be interviewing lol. Thank you for sharing and have a great weekend.

Thank you for the review and your kind comments. Sandra and Lancealot would indeed be good and interesting interviews. I am not familiar with Pearl Edwards.

I would certainly encourage you to interview them. I have no claim on the interviews. Lyenochka has started interviewing some people. She has done two so far, and they are very good, and she has plans for some more.

I have one more coming out next Sunday with Ric Myworld. I am glad you liked the one with Gareth, he is an excellent writer. Terry.
