What an incredible story and what an amazing woman - very well written as well. It reads like something that a film director should be made aware of. Well worth first place - well done

Thank you, and thanks for the six stars. I appreciate them. I find it awesome that this woman is related to me even if very distant. Hugs

Author,
This is such a wonderful story. I only know my great-grandparents (though I never met them) and not 9 x down the ancestry like like you.
It's amazing how this interesting story, survived around 400 years for you to tell it.
Great story and nice photo.
Good luck in the contest.
Blessings,
Cindy

Penelope Van Princis was quite the woman for certain. I cannot imagine her having any medical problems of note after surviving that "Welcome Wagon" attack. She was basically the founding force behind those early establishments.

This is indeed exciting, and well-told. What a Great-Great-Gre...-Grandma to have had. I think the most interesting part of the story is how she believed her Native friend rather than her husband, and left. Presumably it was this unusual reaction that made Richard think again. Kate xx

This is a fascinating historical piece. What an amazing life the lady had and what a fine she made to the settling of America. Your writing is entertaining as well as informative.

Excellent entry for the An Ancestor Story contest.

I appreciate how detailed and knowledgeable is your history. You put in a lot of time and research. I enjoyed reading it. It moved along nicely and the plot was easy to understand and follow. A very compelling piece.

Check this..

When she replied she wanted to go with the men, her captor agreed (but accepted the money they offered for her.) But didn't accept?

Well done, my friend.

Thank you. Nope, he did accept the money. I think it was worded that way to show that Penelope was sold back to her people. hugs

This is an amazing story. What a courageous woman.
It all boils down to "How big is your want to?"
Times were hard enough without having to go through what she experienced. Wonderful story. Good luck in the contest. Nancy:)

Hi there,

that's is certainly some interesting ancestry. Mind you, I've rarely spoken with anyone who doesn't! lol

I would shy away from referring the indigenous people as Indians. It starts off stating Native American and then changes to the more derogatory term.

purchased a large section of East New Jersey from Governor Nichlos. - think the name is misspelt here as it's referred to as Nichols later on.

Now, two hundred years later, a new church stands on the spot, but some of the materials from the original log church have been carefully preserved in the new building.- if you're talking now, it's more than 200 years later, more like three hundred.

All the best

Thank you, I will edit and correct it. Yep, you are right; it would be 384 years now. I was just going by what the ancestor site put down. Hugs.
