I found this to be a remarkable story of a remarkable, strong, and brave woman.
Very few could have endured her hardships.
Thank you for writing her story.
Good luck in the contest.
Best wishes
Mary

With all those severe injuries, she lived to be 110! Wow!!
What a fantastic story and you've done a really good job of writing it. It moves along at a nice pace, engaging the reader without being too wordy. Good read!

Thank you. For Penelope to survive without getting a major infection is extraordinary. Thanks for reading. Hugs

There's no doubt they were made of sterner stuff back then! You've written this brilliantly, and really drew me into the historical narrative. I enjoyed the learning experience!

Thank you. I had no idea there was an ancestor like Penelope in my background. It makes one wonder who they would have been if Penelope had died. I probably wouldn't be here. Hugs.

As an ardent fan of historical fiction (and non-fiction) I enjoyed this portrayal of your many times grandmother a lot. What an interesting and unique story and it was very well presented. Lovely.

Thank you. I must give my sister credit for the research. She love to do genealogy work and has found most of our ancestors as far back as she can go. Thank you for the six stars. I appreciate them.

Wow!
Proud to call such a woman Great Grandmother, as would be I!
Very well written. Just enough a touch of flavor and spice to enrich the straightforward telling. Good work. (And credos to sister Carol)
Best wishes - and hang on to your hair.

Thank you. Carol loves genealogy and has the history of our ancestors on both sides of the family. Hugs

Interesting stories about resilience and kindness. Tortured by some and saved by other, life in a very delicate balance. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings and the contest.

What a wonderful story! Your 9x great grandmother is truly heroic. And God miraculously saved her so that she could save others. It's good that she had that time with the Indians so that when he came to warn her, she could relay that to others. Thanks for sharing! Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. Just think, if she had died, I wouldn't be here today. Hugs

You are fortunate to have Carol be your family geneologist. My sister is our family's geneologist and I try to write the family history of my ancestors, trying to flesh out the numbers that our past history slotted into. Your 9 X Grandmother WAS quite a tough lady. You deserve to be proud of your heritage.
A couple of things I noted, both small:
Shortly thereafter, Penelope's worst trial begins. [Is the a reason you slipped into the present tense here?]
her captor agreed but accepted the money they offered for her. [I believe this should be "her captor agreed AND accepted the money ... etc.]
Good luck with the contest.

Incredible story told with love, passion, and respect.
As a Choctaw Indian, I appreciate the truth being told about what the Native Americans did back then, but you did in a respectful way.
Your writing is clear, concise, and descriptive.
I had a clear picture of the environmental factors of her journey through life.
She lived to be 120 yrs. old.
Is she the oldest person recorded to have lived that long?
Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest.

Thank you. I always did feel that the Indians were in the right. The immigrants were the trespassers. Hugs
