There is a good sense of flow to your story. Your narrator was well-developed ... a strong person, intelligent and observant. We don't know much about him or her, though. We do know about Phil, who is imprisoned with the narrator ... and feel good about him. "We'll be fine," he assured [the narrator]. The situation is established and your reader would be waiting for the next chapter.

I was unsure where this was leading; the descriptions and suspense are so well done.
To find out they paid for the experience in a prison cell was a surprise and unexpected.
