What a great poem that is both patriotic and also wise and rational! You show that it's not about taking sides and that there will always be criticisms. I find it so hypocritical that the Trumpniks who complained about Democrats criticizing Trump are the same ones blaming Biden for everything from oil prices that are too high or too low. Instead, they should all be supportive of the country regardless of the party.
Suggestion:
This nation can't elect, a man who serves with greed (remove comma)

Thank you Marie, I had forgotten about this poem. It was my milestone post. I didn't even remember it being in a contest and I'm don't remember it winning 3rd. So much for all these people talking about my great memory. It was two month ago and I'd forgotten all ready. I'm sure fanStory must have let me know won third.

But I feel saddened that the country has become so divided and I'm beginning to fear for its future. New blood is needed to unite it once more. I'm half American so not entirely out of the loop. Thank you Ulla. I know it is a long way from perfect but I've known so many unhappy people before. I think so of the are getting to much negative feedback for the other political side. It is happening on both sides. To much hatred is scary.

Were I born in Russia, though, or Myanmar, I would hope that I would not be subject to mere blind patriotism. And as an American, protesting injustice should be everyone's mantra - until social justice prevails.

Thank you, Wayne. There is nothing wrong with protesting injustice, but I do have a problem with people who seem to have just dislike for our nation and nothing our leaders do ever pleased them. People should support the good things leaders do and protest the evil.

Until the stars of society enter into politics none of the dangers now seen will be meted properly. Reagan and Trump tried but the insiders ranted and raved that's not the way. Term limits for congress and senators would help instead the latest is to limit the judges. Nutso.

Thanks for the review Tom. I'm not sure I understand what you're saying about stars getting into politics. I have no problem with that if they are people who love our country. I definitely believe in term limits for everyone including judges. We don't a need a king.

Meaning: Regular Joes. Reagan was a movie star. Trump a businessman. Electing folks ingrained in governmental history, politicians, only continues the "good old boy" network where favors are due.

Your poem is rational and clear, without assigning full blame to one man or one party, which I appreciate. The mess the US is in cannot be ascribed to a matter of a few months. Deeply entrenched attitudes have been prevalent for years and they were not attended to at the beginning, so the gradually heating pot is now boiling over. Your poem realistically accepts the traditional negativity and complaints of people about those whose views do not align with theirs. It's a skilfully and well-written poem. Well done.
