The author's words are interesting, comforting, made a difference, are
welcoming, descriptive and creative. I felt the author's words were saying a great companion was found and is treasured today! Thank you for the author's notes. The artwork is awesome and compliments this poem.

This poem, Sir Duke, covers the facts and forms them into reasons why Sir Duke Ludwig is a valuable and well-loved member of your family. Nice.

It sounds like a match made in heaven with you and Sir Duke. I can relate to most of the facts on your list. It does me good to know I'm not alone. I wish you much success with the contest. Best, JohnC

A nice homage in verse. The suspended reveal works well. The images are clear. The poem stays on point. The language is warm and conversational. The ending is expected, but well written.

Thanks for a good read.

How true to reality. You described a dog while "tongue in cheek" you were describing a typical male. Once you have a dog though you are willing to go through all that other nonsense just because they love so intensely and are never afraid to show it.

Nice story.

His name is perfect! And your first line is priceless. Our Bassett hound is the same way. Everything you wrote in your poem is our Sam! And I take full responsibility for him being a "kept man".

Michaela is this a read Sandra's poems night? Thanks! LOL- We dog lovers sure enough love our dogs. There's no other person to blame for you having a kept man!! LOL How old is your Sam?
reply by Michaela Moore on 28-Jul-2022
He is four. And really full of a specific personality and so spoilt.

Shucks, he's a baby. I don't know any dog owners who don't have spoiled dogs. LOL I'm fine with it because we do not have them long.

That's so cute. The first part of your poem could apply to any human male, of course, so it works perfectly. And then at the end, you reveal that it's a very sweet rescue dog who won your heart!

This is lovely and I can relate. I feel the same way about my dog.
The way the story unfolds is very clever.
I think it would be even better without a picture, but that's not important.
Good luck in the contest.

Heather, Thank you for the exceptional rating on my poem about my beloved Sir Duke. I debated about the photo, but I decided I wanted him to be known and recognized. Do you think I should put an older photo? I have one from his 14th birthday. You know we don't have these sweet creatures long. I now cry when he has a birthday because I know his time is coming. Then I hug him and give him a cup of Frosty Paws (dog ice cream) What do you have and how old??

My bad. I was thinking about how at the beginning it seems you're writing about the archetypal man and finding out he's a pet is such a surprise.
But I should have realized the name of the contest was My Pet. So forget everything I said.
The photo of Sir Duke's you've used is really cute.
I feel like you about birthdays.
Our dog is 9 and time has flown by. It seems like yesterday that she was a tiny puppy. I got her for my daughter when she finished school. Her name is Becka and she's a Westie. BTW, Westitude is a real thing even though she's the sweetest fluffy toy ever.
I'm going to miss her terribly when my daughter moves out.

Aw, this is so sweet. Dogs are simply the best, even with their selective listening, vet bills, and reluctance to cuddle at moment's notice.

Sir Duke Ludwig is certainly handsome as well.

Take care,
Erika
