This story is listed as fiction, but the author's notes mention your grandfather's painting as though that part of the story is true. In any event, there couldn't be a bigger surprise than to find out your grandfather had another family. Best wishes in the contest.

Sometimes too much information can be just that, too much. Sounds like curiosity did indeed kill the cat in this case. It's a bad situation, bad Grandpa.
Well written with a surprise ending not appearing until the absolute very end. Good job.

Great piece, Lisa. Some people actually do have whole families other places. I had a hard enough time keeping one going. Lol. You got my vote earlier. Glad to see you're in the lead.

Wow! What an interesting story you have written. The text was easily read and presented in a logical order. The visual makes sense. I like the idea that this story had a truthful strand in it. Good job and good luck!

Huh. How about that? Bigamous. Not just an affair? NOw you must tell if and how the reach out to the sibling came about. It would only be right. Looking forward to the next chapter.

What a family story! I did not see the ending coming. It was a surprise to me. I find it interesting that family secrets are found out years later. Nothing stays hidden forever.
Well done.
Good luck in the contest.

Okay, that I did NOT see coming! What an exciting (if that is the right word) discovery. Thank you so much for sharing this here, and best wishes to you.

Thank goodness you posted again!! You're so prolific, after a week of no new poems or stories, I was starting to worry that I'd have to call the police in your area and ask them to do a welfare check-up on you!!
What a very cool piece...in that punch-us-in-the-gut-but-it's-okay-because-it's-fiction kind of way. Clever and very well written.

How caring of you! I wouldn't know how to do that in another country. I would make personal contact, hoping for a positive response.
Thank you for your nice comments about this piece of family history.

Yes, a fine alternative, indeed. Good on you! Brilliant idea.
You're welcome for the compliment on your stellar writing. I always enjoy your creativity.

What a family story! I can't imagine anyone topping this one.
Your life has been one big surprise. Thanks to your bigamous grandfather, you probably have family members all over the world.
One thought that comes to mind is that your grandfather is the source of your artistic talents.
I certainly enjoyed this one. Every word is engaging.

Apparently my bigamous grandfather stayed true to his 2nd wife. I met his daughter (my father's half-sister) here in NZ once when she was visiting on a cruise, and also visited her in England where she lived, and was told something of their family life. Dad never knew any of this. He died in 1996 and I found out in 2003. Also, I am adopted, so artistic ability is through birth family side (I have a half-sister who is an artist), and through being raised in a nurturing supportive environment, thanks to Dad.
-
I should have known that you were talking about your adoptive parents. The bigamous grandfather just sounded more like your birth parent's side of the family. Your Dad just seems so family oriented and good.
-
My birth-side grandfather may well have been a bigamist too! I know nothing about my father or his father. My adoptive Dad was an honorable man.

Well, what tipped me off was when you learned that another person said it was his grandfather too. But I 'get' that it was a surprise to you and your brother.
This was interesting and as in most of your posts entertaining to read.
I have read that many war veterans have two families, one at home and one where they now lived. They have wives and children and love them all. I understand how this might happen as they are far away for a long time and fall in love with another woman out of loneliness for their home life.
Thanks for sharing a true tale from your past.
