I like this a lot, particularly the way your loop words sometimes took a slightly different turn in the second line, extending the thought not just repeating it. This entry will surely be a strong contender in the contest. Sending best wishes.

Thanks Wendy. I was surprised at the turn this poem too while I was writing it. I began with an acrobatic plane doing loops but by the 2nd stanza I had to ditch that and start again because a witch made me write something else.

Lol. That's how it goes sometimes.

Yes, it loops wonderfully but what a tale you tell. Of witches and gloom is not perfection's way through history. As youth is squandered and true witches are but heroes in disguise I wonder where you got this impression I guess from books and such when you were growing up. I have known a few women who call themselves witches and they are not the threat that you perceive. Yet a loop poem is called for and you do a mighty job.
Good luck with the contest I am sure that many folks will love this poem.
Thanks for sharing and for letting me share!
Jesse

Thanks for your comments, Jesse, and for sharing your experience of witches. Interesting that you say true witches are heroes in disguise - they've had such bad press down through the ages. I have a couple of wiccan friends and they are definitely good witches.

They were heroes because they were the only medicine givers of the time.
Long before doctors, witches were the only way to find healthy options that worked. They got a bad wrap from the men's side of medicine.

Yes, that's true. They knew all about healthy plants etc. Religion, witchcraft, and medicine closely combined.

Yes! Witchcraft was the only medicine for the common people.

A fine story told within this loop and these poems are hard to achieve. I enjoyed the mediaeval magic here as you created a mystical tale of obsession and trickery, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Thanks Dolly - having a witch was rather unusual subject matter for me. Don't quite know how that happened, because when I started I thought I was going to write about an acrobatic aeroplane doing loops!
