For kids, I know for me at least when I was a kid, going back to school was exciting. The summer had been a great reprieve from teachers, homework, and the daily hum-drum routine but now, September, I was ready to hit the books again. Thankfully, the schooltime months are the ones where the most "days-off" holidays occur so we can always look forward to those.

Spot on syllable count for a Rictameter poem, easy read and a fun thought expressed.

Today, as an old fart, it's good to see summer sneak back into the picture.

Lol, this was the humor of the little farmer souled grandson nicknamed goober. He has been called that since little and has lived up to it ever since, as he keeps me laughing all the time. When asked if he was looking forward to going back to school, that is pretty much what he recited after saying, sure grandma.
I asked him again yesterday when he called to tell me how much I probably needed a whole day with him before he goes back to school. How many 12 yr olds still love spending time w their grandma? He is a keeper!
    Thank you my awesome bff.

We have a 14-year-old who loves to be with both Gramma and Grampa. He spends more time here than he does at his own home. They are rare. You just gotta nurture them.

    My best to my BFF

You have covered the school year very nicely. Teachers, also, look forward to those days - except for the workshops. Really good job with Rictameter. I think you will do quite well in the contest.

Thank you so very much Paul! As a fellow retired teacher, as I know you are, I know how some days you truly need those days off. So as my grandson was cracking me up about what he loved most about school, it just seemed like the perfect prompt for it. Thanks again my friend for the awesome review and kind comments!

I really enjoyed this one. So creative to go through all the holidays during the year then coming back to Summer. I had a little difficulty with the format; made it hard to count the syllables. Not a big deal. It's probably me showing my age. Well written and no spags.

Thank you my sweet friend. It is so nice to hear from ones like you that clearly take the time to read and respond accordingly. You have no idea how much it is appreciated. I am a retired teacher and loved it but there were times it couldn't go fast enough for me. So when my 11 yr old grandson told me that, I had to laugh and find the right prompt for it. Thank you for your very lovely review and kind words. So appreciated

Excellent entry for the Rictameter poem contest. I like children Poetry, I will read it to my grandson.

Nice presentation. Your words flow well with descriptive words that express clear imagery.

Good luck in the contest.

Haha! The way your grandson sees the school year, it's not long before his summer is here again. Before I retired, that's the way I looked at the work year, as measured by the number of days off. Your Rictameter sums it up beautifully. Best wishes in the contest.

I looked up Rictameter to know what it really was, and you seem to have followed that pattern. I liked the simple subject matter of Back to School, though I'm not looking forward to it. Great job!

Thank you Amhara. I too didn't know what the poem was for until I saw the prompt. After my grandson joked about the school year, I thought there had to be the perfect contest for it. So this seemed to be it. Thanks so much!

After my grandson, who we call goober made those comments, I knew that this was the right prompt for his theories on school. So had to go with it. Thanks Barb for your very kind review and comments Barb!
