This was interesting. I like how it was coming from the perspective of someone passing by on a stroll. It is a very realistic situation and the poem was in the moment-something that was just observed. I enjoyed how it brought back feelings for the onlooker and questioned the mind: should I tell them, etc. It reminded me of "no control" in this life, but live in the moment. Very creative and a nice read!

A powerful, wistful, yet honest and truthful look at love. Before reality and life comes in, they deserves this moment to remember and cherish.
Best wishes

This poem remained on target from start to finish. The rhyming seemed effortless, and most people past middle age have seen this story play out in their own lives. I found the text a little distracting--it slowed me down trying to read the words despite all the fancy embellishments. Still, it is a stellar poem accompanied by a lovely image.

Thank you for your thoughtful and encouraging review and for the special stars. I agree, it was a little hard to read. I will probably avoid using the script fonts again.

I've always had those moments being disappointed with the Lord that I had to go through some of the things Elaine and I have, but at least our kids have weathered what they needed to endure, but I realised it was the love in our lives that has endured all that. This is beautifully written, and a great testament to the goodness of God, and your ability to endure Janet, well done, blessings Roy

-Very nice image and presentation, Janet.
-Thanks for the notes.
-Effective imagery and rhyme.
-I like how the verses seem to counter one another.
-You start with "youthful lovers" with their "youthful hopes and dreams."
-Then you follow it with wanting to warn them about pitfalls.
-That is followed by good realizations if you were to do those things.
-And as you indicated, it led to to the wishful concluding verse.
-Very well done. You have a way with capturing emotions.

I recently went to a dear nephew's wedding. I was struck by the twinkle in their eye and wondered how they'd stand the test of time...

Love is such a journey! Never all sunshine and rainbows and rarely all storms--but one must get through all of that and learn to accept our partner may not always be on the same page...

It's nice to reminisce. We learn to appreciate those shiny golden days when all was new!

I can appreciate the melancholy. It's best, I think, to allow them their fantasy...

Reality washes over all of us soon enough!

A meaningful poem here, that whispered to the young woman I was once and the older (perhaps wiser? person I have become.

Thank you Karenina for your thoughtful and encouraging review. Yes, I too hope as we get older that we become wiser and I hope that for them as well.

I love that mischief and tomfoolery bring offspring - great line:-)

What a sweet yet pensive poem of life and dreams and the heartache and treasure that comes to us all.

Thank you Pam for your thoughtful and encouraging review. I loved that line but wasn't sure it would play well. Kind of "old time" expressions.

Hi Janet,
A beautiful recollection triggered by the sight of young love. Should you tell them of life turmoil or wait for them to realize their days? This is beautifully written, and I loved the read. Best, JohnC

Sweetly melancholy and honest, the experienced wish the dreamers the best, but understand there will be tests. Lessons learned through failure and new starts make for a understanding heart, as you so clearly express in this thoughtful piece.

This poem expresses the thoughts of a mature person who has lived a life of many varied experiences. Do you try to teach what you've learned in an effort to spare hardships? No. Young people have no frame of reference, and no way of understanding things that have not happened. Your poem is realistic and thought provoking. Well done.
