This sweet reflection of life is expressed in the perfect mood of a walk at sunset. It brings your imagery full force to life. There is such melancholy in the words you chose to express your musings, but at the same time, they juxtapose peace. Melancholic peace...that's lovely.

So true, Janet, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
It is quite an adventure but well worth the ride. So many dreams unanswered or unused how do we say it? Un done? Whatever the phrase we had to rethink or redo the plans which worked for us in the long run. Well done and so true, my friend. We wish them well! Nancy:)

This poem has it all! It is very skillfully written, moving, and powerful in its message. Yes, we see the stars in their eyes and want to warn them of how life will change--and so will they. You're right, though; we shouldn't rob
them of those moments. (They wouldn't listen, anyway!)

These are words of wisdom here - those of us who have traveled the road of life are familiar with the lay of the land. There are hidden curves and pitfalls along the way. And our young ones who are just beginning their journeys will encounter them. We do our best to present them with a general road map. But whatever direction they decide to take is their choice. We wish them the best and pray a lot!

But if I did, I know I'd rob them of
those precious verities, those cherished schemes.
The building blocks on which they grew their love
could all be lost without those treasured dreams.

It's tough growing old and looking back. Especially when it's our grandchildren getting married. But had we not done all we did, perhaps those grandchildren would be there, following in our footsteps and learning as we did. They are a continuation of us. I loved your poem, Janet, you had me going back in time. Don't be melancholy, be proud that they are a part of who you are. They continue our dream. Lovely, my friend. :) Sandra xx

A large helping of realism here and why not, but wrapped in the dreams and hopes and joys of youth and young love and optimism- the building blocks of life - lovely imagery 'building blocks on which they grew their love'

Their hopes and dreams must play out through the good, the bad and the plain ugly. Whatever happens along the way was meant to be. In my mind, I believe God preplans our lives. Everyday is a learning lesson. We learn from our mistakes. Thank you for sharing.

A beautiful reflection on the cycle of life, and about relationships, hopes and dreams, and the passing of time. You've interwoven it with memories and reminiscences, and the wisdom of years about life's realities. Yes, we must trust our young ones to live out their aspirations, learn from their mistakes and from the difficulties. Then we reach our place of fulfilment. Lovely writing, and a superb presentation.

Marriages don't always work out and last a lifetime but we are always hopeful it will last forever when we marry. We can't put an old head on young shoulders and we fear for the pitfalls they will fall into. A fine well rhymed write Janet, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Awe Janet, what a lovely poem of articulated rhyming words of then and now.
I can feel every word as it reminds me that yesterday we were where your grandson is right now. And yet, back then the thought of being where we are now was a very distant future away. Since the first time we met, I have always felt that you had such a beautiful heart and soul and it shows with every mesmerizing word, in this poem as well as so many others you write. I can truly relate when you say, "For now please hold my outstretched weary hand" Thank you for honoring us with this stunning poem of love, as it also reminds me that my almost fifty years of marriage, is the real love we didn't know existed way back then.
