What a sweet and loving story about a special relationship. My favorite part is the walk and talk after your husband died, so precious and rings so true. I bet it was difficult having to tell her it was best for her to live at her home. What a blessing and a beautiful way to use writing to tell about you two.

I loved so many things about this story. First of all, it was posted with a beautiful portrait of a darling little girl, and was completely free of typos or spag which makes the reading experience so much more enjoyable. Secondly, the story is sweet and full of love with a generous splash of wisdom thrown in. Thirdly, the story is told with great skill and charm. I could find no way to make it better. You may have my last six of the week. This story deserves it. MM

Hi Sarah,
firstly, congratulations on your very first post on FS!

As I read, I notice some spacing issues... over spacing between words here and there. Also a line that has dropped to the next line...
On my next visit to Maryland, Jessica asked if... then it drops down to the next line, of course... we could get our tennis shoes 'on' and take a walk. ... it should be the same line.
In the same paragraph "How do you go to heaven if you get buried in the ground?" And. (capital letter) "How deep is the hole?" Or " How do you go to heaven if you get buried in the ground? And, how deep is the hole?"

Now that out of the way. What a sweet story, I loved reading this, it kept me in the entire way. The love connection is just beautiful, and bring memories flooding in of my closeness to my Grandmother.

It's a beautiful write, just needs to be tidied up a tad... and only a editing typo, but the story, beautiful!

With our thoughts we create...
bonded connection.

Kind regards,
James.

Hi Sarah. What a heartwarming story you have written for your first post. The slightest cry sounded like "Hello Grandma!" to you is such a fine way of expressing your love.

Yes keeping one's peace is best in many situations and this one of those.

Very, very well done. Welcome to FanStory. I think you will very much enjoy your time here. :))

Thanks Roy. I appreciate your kind words. I understand that you are Australian. My husband and I lived in Melbourne - Kew in the late 80s. We loved your country and would have retired there except our family was in the US. Again, thanks. Sarah Robin

I enjoyed reading this lovely story about you granddaughter, Sarah. You don't say if the picture is an actual one of her, but she sounds beautiful. It's so nice you have been able to create such a bond with her, even if you see her so infrequently. Thanks for sharing. And congratulation for reaching a Milestone.

You have a nice little post here that articulates that love that only a grandmother can have for a little girl. That special bond between you comes through loud and clear through these detailed scenes that illustrate so much of not only her personality, but yours, and your shared sensibility and sensitivity. That scene in which she seems a bit uncertain since the birth of her brother was very telling of the insecurity young children can feel when someone else crowds in on their space, and also of your reaction and how you reassured her. Nice piece. estory

What a beautiful story, Sarah. You reminded me of when my lovely granddaughter had a baby brother. I lived in Spain at the time and came home to England to visit my new grandson. When I went into their lounge, my son was sitting with my grandson on his lap, looking so proud, but my granddaughter was looking at me, and the first thing I did was open my arms wide and asked her for a cuddle. The change in her was immediate. Love that girl so much. That was 15 years ago. They never forget. You did the right thing, it's so easy to get it wrong though. I'm sorry you lost your husband in the time. This was such a lovely, beautifully written story, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Welcome to Fanstory! Warm hugs, Sandra xxx

You have written a lovely story of the bond between you and your beautiful granddaughter, Jessica. As I read, that feeling of love came through more and more with each paragraph. Jessica had a way of saying the right words that could melt your heart. However, as a good grandma you stood firm with your answers that she would not live with you. I'm sure that pleased your son.
