Jaybird, I know you are getting on in age, but you've been writing too much about the end of life lately. Give me something different next time.

A nice poem about facing the end of life after a long life. I like the allusions to the Jordan river and the coming of the next life promised by Christians.

Yes, it is scary. But I know you will do fine.
As a writer, you capture the essence of life and death with such refinement.
The sonnet style suits you with its rhyme structure in your capable hands.
Thanks for sharing and may you pass quickly and go into the pearly gates!

Jay, your poem is so brave and strong, but it made me cry. I know when we reach the age of 97, it might be easy to imagine there are not a lot of years left, but I had a wonderful friend who lived healthy and happy to the age of 104, so I am hoping you will too. You still write beautiful poetry, and that's a good sign you have lots more living to do. Thank you for this introspective and touching poem. I thought it was lovely. MM

I always enjoy your sonnets and sonnet types. I think you have eloquently expressed the scary prospect of facing death that one never knows exactly will occur.
And you have at the same time expressed great gratitude for the many good things life gave to you.
Always a pleasure to read and review your work, Jay.

Jaybird,
Thank you for continuing to share your writing gift and strong faith. You give thanks in your well formed poem as well as thankfulness and gratitude. You offer some transparency as to some fear of the unknown that is universal. Very sweet ending about reuniting with your wife. God bless you!

(You might want to add the apostrophe in Jordan's in your title.)

Y es it certainly is for us humans and the prospect of what lies beyond - your poem is inspiring in its approach to this key moment in our lives -and the couplet holds much hope

Ah, what a beautiful ending to a lovely poem - I love the sense of acceptance and determination to be who you want to be as you approach a final ending. That you also acknowledge the inevitable fear is very human and equally beautiful.

You are experiencing a life well lived, with uncertain thoughts of what comes next. Millions before you have wondered some of the same things. My thought is to focus on all the joy you can experience now, and let tomorrow take care of tomorrow. Surround yourself with things you love. There's joy to be had today.

I felt your fears in your words and we never know when our number is up but whilst you still have breath and you are writing poetry like this, then you are a survivior and a hero, I enjoyed the journey here and when you are united with your wife she will welcome you with open arms, until then keep us amused with your poignant and clever words, love Dolly x
