In just fifty words, you wrote a beginning (what happened), a middle (why it happened), and an end (how it influenced the characters)--nicely done. It is not easy to cover all three of those bases in so few words. In appreciation, I made my review fifty words as well.

It sounds very plausible and could be taken for a true story. Our one great family dog would not let anyone touch our kids until she had a good sniff of them, and she could see our approval. They know, really, they do.

Excellent entry for the 50 Word Flash Fiction writing prompt contest. Poor Pete. It sounded like a real story.

Good words count and story line. A great presentation and imagery. It flows well with descriptive words that paint a clear mental picture.

Good luck in the contest.

This fifty-word flash fiction story, Hero Pete, has the required word count and reminds us of both our selfless pets and the loved ones they protect. Nice.

And even if they never do a heroic deed, more often than not, the one they have chosen are their best friend, and not because they feed and shelter them. They simply like to be best friends.

I like this dialogue only fifty word dribble contest entry. It provides a complete thought. A little girl asked her dad a question, and his answer demonstrated his gratitude for Pete, the dog, and love for his daughter. Well done. Best wishes in the contest.

Beautiful story of the love and protection that dogs offer, many times sacrificing their own selves in the process. Best wishes for your entry.

Your short story is a real tear-jerker. Dogs are the most loving and loyal animals on earth. I did have a Blue Heeler that saved me from a bull. She didn't get hurt because she knew what she was doing. She is gone from old age now, and I miss her every day. I wish you luck in the contest.

I agree with your author notes, Mystery Author. The bond
of dogs with humans is strong--esp when there is love shared
with the dogs. I enjoyed reading your entry. The dialogue, though
fictional, is believable between a young girl and her father.
I liked the way her father expressed how he sees their dog after
it has passed.
Best wishes in the contest, Jan

Don't know what a dribble is but this was quite moving. The innocence of her question. Will we ever see him again? It is hard to answer to a child. The concept of an afterlife is really hard to explain. The dialog was realistic and the short story was full of drama though in past tense.
