Perfect verse. No SPAGs of any kind, and I always look very deep, whether I know/respect the author or not. But this one is perfect!
I don't know how I missed it on first release, but I am surely glad I found it in your portfolio. I see a message of a crying heart wanting to fly and now you have flown. You are sharing yourself and all your gifts with everyone; I am sure in real life the same as you do here on FS.
You are such a warm and loving soul, whatever happened that made you feel the way you did in the beginning of this poem is a tragedy, an atrocity against yourself and women in general. Nobody should ever have to write or think words like that because of personal experience.
I, for one, am so glad you are the woman that "you am!"

Gary, I love you! This review and your very kind words are so thoughtful and caring that I may have to print it out and frame it. I so very much appreciate your gracious gift of six stars as well. Isn't it true that our biggest lessons in life are the ones that were negative. Of course I am not talking about the molestation and rape as I know now that those were not my fault, but the way we respond; keeping something secret that could have changed the course of time if we had told, feeling the need to numb, when we could have given it to God and I guess any mistakes that we have made. Kind of like Terry's story of School of Hard knocks. I not only attended that school, as you did, but I was held back many years in a row. Maybe that is why we are so close, because we both had been there and came through it because of our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ. Thanks again my awesome big brother and bff.

What a beautiful piece, I'm not surprised it won the contest. It's so strong, but written in a plain and matter-of-fact style which I think suited the topic well. It portrays the story of a strong woman that managed to be (as in live and deal with the troubles of her life) and it is an inspirational bit.

"The Woman That I Am" is a sweet condensed biography narrated by a woman who describes the ups and downs of her life and ends up fulfilled and happy to have achieved the earthly status of one who loves and helps others. The author writes in iambic heptameter and uses an A-A-B-B rhyming scheme for each of the four stanzas in the poem.
This poem focuses on the trials life puts an individual through and writes about a solution this person has found. The poem flows well but it lacks any phrases or description that would make E.A. Robinson's beard bristle.

Hi Debi. Well, you certainly clobbered me in the poem contest re who I am. I didn't get even one vote, and I realize that what FS readers want is endless happy endings with wheaties and raisins. I'm too dark in my perceptions of life, and being happy is the primary goal for most of us. At any rate, Debi, may you be well and congratulations on your contest winner.
