So beautiful, Wendy. The content is revealing and self-forgiving in your faith's eyes as it almost reads as a prayer. It was elegant! I enjoyed the read. Congratulations, my friend.

What a beautiful free verse on compassion, Wendy! I'm sorry I missed reviewing it earlier. I guess it was when I was traveling home.
I loved how you took our sense of sight, hearing, and touch and question our inability to see, hear, and feel the needs of others.
Congratulations on your prize!

Really beautiful poem Wendy! I love the message. I wish more of humanity could open their hearts and sights. My favorite part was "Clear eyes, open ears, gentle hands". It's a brilliant line. It reminds me of when I'm listening to a song and then hear a change in pattern or rhythm and lyrics. I feel like that abruption adds a lot interest in your piece. Thank you for sharing this and adding to my day. May your pen continue to be blessed,
Melbelles

Hi Wendyu,

Great sentiments expressed in this finely written piece. I think highlighting those juxtapositions works incredibly well/

At first glance, I thought the musicians in the picture were toting rifles!

I've been having some formatting issues myself recently. I wonder if it's a site glitch?

All the best

In "Senses for Living," the narrator asks some very important questions about the way in which troubling, unclear motivations obscure truths about humanity. In the expansion of Darwin's survival of the fittest to the human model, there are strings of entanglement within human motivation that are difficult to separate and understand. However, one thing seems clear: survival is more important than the truth, and the drive to survive establishes mechanisms within us that do not align with ideals or the truths that ideals inspire. Inevitably, we ask questions about the seemingly whimsical cruelties we mete out to fellow humans; finding the answers to these questions is not a matter for philosophy and its logic. Rather, science and its insights into why we choose as we do is a more probable route to understanding and improving ourselves.

A very compassionate poem contrasting and drawing parallels between nature and human nature.

-If our bodies, mind or appearance could be measured or weighed as precious metals, we should all be valued or be valuable, be cherished, recognized for our worth and appreciate our own value.

Sparkling in your poem:
-The various messages,
-Consciousness and introspection.
-An appreciation of the variations and diversity and the beauty and the vulnerability of our imperfections.

My favourite lines: I am not deaf to glorious music and majesty of symphonies... Why then am I deaf to to the cries of the lonely, the vulnerable, the poor..

An insightful poem.

Now this is a mantra I would gladly have repeated every morning in school assemblies - something meaningful and applicable to all, regardless of any dividing consideration. I do think we'll end up in a place where people are just people and treated as themselves with no other factor, but there's a good way to go yet. This was beautifully written.

Thank you for this very thoughtful and encouraging review. Yes, we need to think about what judgements we are making with all our senses. Why do we appreciate the beauty of colours in nature but not for people's skins?
