Yes, the Tudors are endlessly interesting. Its about the only thing they ever taught us in school history lessons.
I know very little of my ancestors and would like to keep it that way. The only thing I know is that one of my ancestors on my German mother's side was one of 8 siblings who were bequeathed a lot of money and land. All but one sibling invested their money wisely. My ancestor blew it on women and wine and gambling. As Homer might say. D'Oh.

Thank you for the review. I'm not sure why I got interested in my ancestors, but we have so many of them that we'll never learn much about. They come from all walks of life and some we might have really liked and other we would probably dislike. There are a lot of people who had rather not know, so you are certainly not alone. I assume you're quoting Homer Simpson and not the Greek philosopher.

So glad I got to this in time. I have a feeling we have a distant connection to Henry the 8th, as well. Louise said it is through Jane Seymour's brother. She just told me. No spags.

How about that? I figured we might have something in common but I never dreamed it would be in Henry VIII's court. Thank for reviewing.

-A lot of truth in the statement "Those with nothing can become quite wealthy, or those with great wealth can lose it all." Happens all the time in the United States.

-"Escape religious persecution" is why so many immigrants have come to America.

-A plantation that became a city, West Point, Virginia. That is some wealth.

-He made England Protestant. He was king. He could do that. Whatever he said, went.

-Suppose one never knows, who or what, may fall out of a shaken family tree. Probably one of the many reasons I never ran mine. Guess I did not want to find out.

Thank you for an excellent review. I like all the comments that you made. I can understand why you might not want to know. Finding out doesn't change things. Your DNA doesn't make you who you are.

I'm glad you are doing this research and I agree with you that it doesn't help when there is so much fiction added to the books written about the royal families to titillate the readers.
I always thought Anne Boleyn (as some historians like to portray her) was a brave Protestant who tried to win Henry to a different view of Christianity. We'll never really know I guess. But I how your research will make your connection to the Boleyns clearer.

Thank you Helen. Most of the references to Ann show her to very educated and intelligent. She was interested in politics which is part of what got her in trouble with the king. It seems her father and her mother's brother were extremely ambitious and power hungry. Her father curried favors with the king by having one of his daughters as the king's mistress. The program last night indicated Mary had no choice when the king summons her, and she was reluctant. Who knows. I don't think Henry cared about religion other then to make it fit is own needs, like other I know about more recently. In the end Mary married a commoner for love and she ended up being disowned by her family, but at least she didn't die at the guillotine as the all rest did.

Glad you found out more from the program. It's cool to have those famous ancestors.

You did a great job, Beth, with this account. I believe many
know of Henry VIII and his treachery. I liked the way you
expanded on that part of the lineage. You gave readers some
great info and cautioned them that not all they read is
historically accurate. I admire your continued research.
Thanks for sharing and happy researching, Jan

Thank you so much Jan, We can only find out what has been written about the people in the past but so many of the articles contradict what the others say so truth is hard to come by.

The more you search the more interesting it gets. Who knows what you might come up with searching back into your English heritage. Of course, I've decided not to follow in your footstep, afraid I might find things I really don't want to know. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Ric, Sometimes the results of digging surprise you. It is interesting but a bit unsettling. Are you afraid if you look you might find more kids you didn't know about. LOL Just kidding.

That's how Israel got Saul, the natural state of affairs is to have absolute rulers, democracy will always come back to that, as you can see in America, if a country ceases to be under God, eventually it will become totalitarian. Under one ruler, more often than not, a Tyrant. The Queen is a constitutional ruler. As are the other present day monarchs, we have a Governor General is a vice regent, it's all a bit confusing. Beautifully written Beth, blessings Roy

Thank you for a great review. I know most countries don't give absolute power to their leader but Russia and some Arab and some Oriental country still have too much power.

My mother claims she was connected to the Hapsburg royal line. My aunt found no evidence of that when she investigated our ancestry. I enjoyed rereading the history of the Bolyns in this post. Henry VIII was an SOB and I wonder if serial killers (of women) could claim a blood line there. LOL
It's impressive to learn that you had wealthy ancestors who held titles. Since you were always investing in land, I wouldn't doubt this.
Happy hunting, Beth.

I really hope the bloodline was depleted before it got to me. I think you should examine your bloodline again, because I have a feeling there is bit of royal blood in all of us. I just a discovered a preacher in my line that was burned at the stake in England because he wouldn't renounce his faith. Maybe he'll take away so of the evil I might have inherited. LOL

There is a PBS special starting tonight on television called, - Writers should avoid references to time. There is no telling when it might be read.
Best wishes.
