First I want to say congratulations for the prize. This is a most interesting photo and the poem you wrote to go with it was so perfectly metered and rhymed. I enjoyed it very much. And quite the inspiration they were. You somehow managed to be informative, humorous and even sympathetic, all at one time, and all with perfect rhyme and meter. I got a particular kick out of the lines, "I worry for those amputees, their lives so full of tragedies."
Why is it that every time I post a good contest entry, you post a better one???

Crab Claws is an interesting poem that ponders how two crabs came to leave their claws on a beach in New Zealand.
They say to stay on the land after dark.
Crabs are a favorite food of the shark.
Those claws you found - they just might
be what was left of the crabs after just one bite!

This is such a coincidence, tomorrow night my daughter and I have been invited to a Crab Dinner. Now I am looking at the real thing. It sounds like something is attacking them and leaving behind parts. Thank you for sharing.

Poor crabs! I guess they were some-one's dinner, either human or sea-gull. You've taken a great photo, and accompanied it with a thoughtful and reflective piece with smooth rhyme and metre. Well done, and best wishes for your entry in the contest.

Well, when one door closes, another one opens, so this gave you (and us) a chance to use our imagination to wonder how these claws came to be dislodged.

This is a good entry for the contest. The poem asks some good questions and supplies possibilities of how the claws were lost. To make you feel better, each time a crab molts it can regrow a new claw.

Enjoyed your fun poem about the walk on Aramoana Beach. (In Hawaii, we have the Ala Moana beach which means near the ocean.)
The tone of the poem is reflective and with childlike wonder and compassion for the "deceased crustaceans). I especially liked:
"I worry for those amputees,
their lives so full of tragedies."

Heh heh, I think we all look for inspiration don't we Jenny? I love crab, lobster too, but of course the only thing I can afford is smoked tinned muscles, cheap, but as nice as smoked oysters to eat. This is a great piece of writing my friend, well done, blessings Roy
