This draws the reader in, who want to know where they can read them: "stories about it, telling of how my mom and I went for the ride of our lives and ended up unhurt, but with unbelievable tales" Good tongue-in-cheek humor, a little comedy relief: "or a little town where nothing ever happened, things were looking up." This actually dulled the trauma:
"Reliving it the first two or three times, I could handle, but after twenty recitations, the story was getting old." It's actually a technique called over exposure. I love that it is told through a child's perspective.

I haven't read your other stuff about the storm, but this was good. I have always wondered what it would be like to survive a tornado and lose my home. I live in NY, so I haven't even had a tornado come anywhere near where I live. I love how you made this lighthearted.

Wonderful story! You've managed to get much mileage from this momentous event without resorting to self-plagiarism--each piece provides an independent perspective. This is fabulous. Poor guy in the doghouse!

I really did enjoy this, especially the part about the underwear, I did read the other story and it was very frightening, I cant believe the cats didn't die.

Thank you so much for a great review and the six stars. It is surprising the cats were not hurt. We did lose a few chickens. There were 19 people killed in that storm so we were very fortunate.

For me, this is a fascinating story, since I grew up in a big noisy city. The only tornado I've seen was in the movies on on the TV news. I'm making a note to check out your portfolio for a description of what it was like to ride through a funnel. You experienced a true adventure.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. The storm stories are pretty far in my portfolio. You could look at names. I think one is called "Too Hot For February.

Tornados, and other forces of nature, are nothing to fool around with.

In Paragraph two possessions, compared to people you cared about, were just stuff that could be replaced.

"most of it's" should be most of its.

Seems you came through the experience rather unscathed, all things considered. Good for you.

What a great story that gives a different view on your aspect of the tornado. Not only losing everything, but getting a new home that was better than the one you had. It kind of hits home with old sayings about when we lose something, something else is gained. Not the exact saying. LOL. Thanks for sharing Wish I had a six.

Thank you Ric. I'm so glad you liked my story. It shows what a bored kid I was when any kind of excitement, even something that could have killed me, was a good thing.

A true story, we know, about a tornado, how the storm had passed, what happened, when you was only 10 year old, how fortunately you escaped, saved, experience in the family, you moved to a new house, new experience; well said, well done, post god speed more, share post not 4 self-joy-pride but 4 God and readers worldwide Alcreator Litt Dear (DR)

This is a nice essay which shows a different side of you. I particularly like the second paragraph. Seems your aunt has a sense of humor about the catastrophe. Excellent descriptions of the damage done to your clothes. Love the bit about your neighbor trying to explain the panties on his floorboard. A laugh again about the piano being too heavy. Special thanks for saving those cats!

You've done a wonderful job relaying this story from a different point of view, after the storm, Beth. Your honesty about how you, as a child, really felt about it all - excited instead of afraid or sad. Thanks for sharing this with us. Good luck in the contest.
