What a harrowing experience, but you came through it well. A child's perspective on things is so much different than an adult's. I was in a tornado once and would have been killed had not the AC unit deflected a flying metal storage house from down the street.

Thank you so much for the review and comment. I think it was a miracle we weren't killed or even hurt.

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I have only seen a few tornados but not nearly as close as you were. God was looking over you. I enjoyed reading and wish you luck with the contest.

Thank you Barbara. It is something you never forget if you on and it takes you into air. I agree God was watching over us because 19 people died in it and about 100 were injured.

I haven't read the other story. It must have been posted before I fanned you or in my old age I have forgoten. LOL Anyhow the closest I ever came to a tornado was a mile away. We watched it go through our hometown, December 18, 1957. The day my son was due, but he was late, didn't come until the 30th. The stork was probably afraid of 'fowl' weather. LOL Well done, Beth. Nancy:)

Thank you Nancy. I've written several of them and may repost because it has been a while. The town I grew up in has had tornado hit there 4 or 5 times that I know off. A lot of people have storm shelters.

My hometown of Mt Vernon, Illinois is in Tornado Alley as well. That is the main reason I agreed to leave and come west. I feared the Tornado Season after I witnessed one from a mile away. LOL Nancy:)

Good work. It's a nice story.
Tornadoes are wicked things, indeed. One killed our neighbor across the creek holler before destroying our house. My son (9 years old) slept through it, no house around him.
Best wishes and good luck in the contest.

Thank you Wayne. There was 18 people killed and over 100 injured in this one. I've written others stories about it that told more. Thank for the review and comments.

You did a great job with the POV of the tornado, Beth.
It was well-written with great details that created
awesome imagery. I remember reading a story or two
about this storm when you first wrote it. Now look at
all the memories you are able to share about it. So
glad you and the family were ok. Wow, a new house.
That would surely impress a young child--you.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Lol! I love the humor you put into this from the unexplained panties on the floorboard and the twin beds "like married life" in the good ol' days of TV. I do remember the miraculous way the Lord preserved you and your mom in this tornado. But this time you covered more about the aftermath and how your house was repaired afterwards. Best wishes in the contest!!

This is a well-told story. The plot does not seem rushed. It's a wonder you can still remember so much. I guess something this traumatic cannot be easily forgotten. The visual fits well.
In the 5th para. correct the spelling for tin~grandpa's ten roof. I wish the story was written in a larger font size. Good luck in the contest. You have a good entry.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. If type seems too small, you need to hit the Ctrl key and the plus sign and it will make everything larger. I have to that a lot myself.

What an experience you've had. Unforgettable, surely. And you have written it in a way that makes it very real to the readers. All the details, and even the Kitties. It really brings to the story, the child-view of events. Write some more. I can envision a series of your stories, following the experiences of this, deal with life as it is, person. Interesting.

This is a terrific story and a strong contest entry that I hope will do well.

I have experienced the freight of a tornado, but in the sense of going in the basement and listening to the hollowing wind and strong vibrations.

What you went through is incredible!!

I can not imagine what that sounded like, and looked like from your perspective.

I thank you for sharing your story.

Good luck in the contest.
