Author,
A nice story eloquently wrought from a letter by your father.
Your version is close to that if your father's. They both capture a time when their world was full of chaos.
Excellent story.
Good luck.
Cindy

This is a well-written story and a beautiful reflection of the actual letter your dad wrote. I could feel his thoughts as he wrote this. I lived through WWII and a close version of this letter was written to thousands of wives. Your description of what was happening at that time and in that place brought back a lot of memories and emotions. Thank you for sharing.

As encouraging as a letter from a loved one on combat duty must be harrowing at best. You are happy that they are alive and able to write letters home, but you worry all the more because you know the last letter may very well be the last. I had no romantic attachments when I went into the military in 1960 and did not allow myself to form any until I was discharged four years later. It can be very hard on both the soldier and the loved one back home to wait for every communication hoping against hope of never getting that dreaded visit announcing your loved one's death.

Thank you for your review. I have to admit that it had to be rough on my mom. My dad went into the service upon the death of his brother.

Congratulations, Mary, on reaching this first milestone. Your choice of reproducing your dad's letter is a great idea. We can all feel the emotion of letters during those dicey times.

Wish I had saved a six. This was a wonderful tribute to your father. I loved that you have his original letter. I can't imagine the fear those men had when storming the beach that day. It must have been hell. I thoroughly enjoyed this.

Your letter takes me way back in time, almost making me feel like I was right there in the moment. A husband and father not knowing what the next minute might bring, his dearest Rose and little angels all he can think about. Congratulations on the hard work of obtaining your degree. I went back to college at sixty-three, not because I would ever use it, only because I wanted it. LOL. Thanks for sharing. Wish I had a six.

Congratulations on getting your degree. I loved it and the professors enjoyed us "old folk" in classes because we were attentive and engaged. I was lucky to have employers who reimbursed me for classes.

Thank you for sharing this emotional letter with us. I enjoyed reading. People should not forget this history. It's part of who Americans should be. I want to congratulate you on your 100-post milestone. Great job.

Oh, this is precious. Don't lose that letter. One day everything connected to WW2 will be extremely valuable. Your dad was the Greatest Generation this country has ever birthed. They will never be replaced. Your dad and others actually, unlike every other war, saved this world from ruthless dictators. May God bless him even now.

Congratulations on your one hundredth post. That's a lot of writing. This is a good letter you have written. Most of it would never have passed the censors, and his lieutenant would have had him busted in rank. However, it does sound a lot like what a soldier would have wanted to write to his beloved wife.

Congratulations on a Milestone Post. This story is so realistic and emotional that I could feel the words and sentiment expressed. This young soldier (your dad) wrote with such feeling and love. Your writing made the story told in the letter come alive. I enjoyed this trip back in time.
