Aw, Beth, this is a winner. It actually brought tears to my eyes. What a lovely partnership you and your husband had. It's just so great how you can carry on with your life after so many wonderful years with all its ups and downs. I loved this. Ulla:)))

A wonderful love story, Beth. I could feel your pain at almost losing the love of your life. But you were right to date others to make sure, your pick was the only one.

Thank you for that. I'm glad I got to get to know and go out with other guys because I might have always resented the fact he had dated and I hadn't. It helped me know what I really wanted in a husband. Thank you for all those stars.

Beth,

This story deserves a six, but I'm out. It is perfectly written and holds the readers attention all the way through. You did an excellent job of explaining your thought and emotional processes throughout. I am so glad that you had such a wonderful marriage, and that you made a good decision on your own at the right time.

Sue

The flow of your story moved well. You sound like a very determined woman, an important factor that Evan fell in love with you. I'm glad you pursued your education and Evan stood behind you. I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm sure you have a treasure of fond memories.

This was an excellent "slice of life" story. I like how you learned to make up your own mind. It sounds like you made a really wise choice and were blessed in your marriage. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you Verna. If I'd let my parents keep making the decisions I might have remained single. I guess most of us grow up eventually.

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I enjoyed reading. I understand. My parents made all my decisions for me. It took a while for me to learn to make them on my own. Good luck with the contest.

"Do you want to finish college?" he asked. "We can't afford it," I told him. (Two dialogues in one paragraph, they need separate paragraphs.)

Well, I'm a true sucker for happy stories, and yours, certainly is one. To marry the first person you ever seriously dated and have 61 happy years is a miracle that doesn't happen for most. Congratulations on 61 years! Thanks for sharing.

Ahh... Thank you. I'm glad you liked my story. I saw enough of those college boys to know he was the one.

Very interesting. Very well written. Good work.
I wish college was as inexpensive now as when I went. Now, unless you come from a rich family, loans are required.
Best wishes.

Thank you, Wayne. Yes back then if you weren't a dormitory student you could make it without having to borrow money. Thanks so much for the nice review.

Even though I knew a lot of the story before because of what you shared, I still enjoyed how you created such suspense about how he would react and what he could have said! And how funny that you just blurted out that you'd marry him instead of explaining about the platonic relationship with the other guys. I think back then there were more men in college than women so I can imagine you had your pick of them. But glad that you chose Evan! Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you Helen, I'm sure I chose the right one for me. We had good life. I might not have been as open as I should have been about the guys in college but it made me feel more sure that I'd made the right choice, because it cleared up for me what I really wanted in a husband.

Beth, I love this piece. It's so natural like the way you always tell your life story. You made a huge decision at age 17 and it was a great one. Your marriage lasted for 61 years and beyond because you still miss him terribly. You have three beautiful children. I think you have three, correct?

Excellent. Good luck.

Thank your for a great review. I'm so glad you like it and I appreciate all the stars. Actually I have three girls and one boy. In addition to those four we lost our first little girl at two months.
